Andrew: I think you will be pleasently surprised that the hype surrounding how difficult a 2 iron is to hit is a little exaggerated. I currently game the Titleist ZB and used to have the Ping i5. It's my go to club when I stand on the tee box and I feel fear in my loins at the view before me.

Eden: Sorry for hijacking your thread.

Andrew & Alvin: My theory is as follows - If I'm looking to protect or hit a target score for the day/hole, I'll only take the driver on the tee box for par 4's in excess of 400 m. Ratinale being that the 2 iron gives me 190 - 205 m and a 90% probability of being in the fairway. With that in mind, even if its a 400m par 4, at most I'll hit 2 x 2 irons and if the 2nd shot isn't accurate, it's 1 chip and at most 2 putss for a bogey. I'd take that rather than being in the jungle or water or losing a ball with a way ward driver or 3 wood. Bear in mind that this is my opinion and isn't gospel.

I salute you guys. I have hung up my 3 and 4 irons already. Using hybrid replacement. If hole too tight, I will just pull off my 3 wood or 5 wood to tee off instead. Just can't handle the long irons well.

I have found hitting a 4 hybrid much easier than a 4 iron and same with the 3 iron and hybrid. Find that it is easier to get the ball airborne. Isn't that why people are using hybrids instead of long irons?

Perhaps we can continue the long iron discussion on the next thread rather than digress from Eden's original post of the best 3 wood combo?
