After reading the above statement , although 100% true, I feel I must voice the following ...

Threads like these have me worried for us amateurs ... the mindset ... this is not a long drive competition ... one may make a "mines bigger than yours" statement by hitting the highest lofted iron in the flight ... but ultimately its about getting the ball into the hole ... hit it closer , to give yourself a better chance to sink the put ... lower score and more $$$ ...

The only point isn't how far you "can" hit it ... its also how far you can hit it "accurately" with "consistency"! The less dispersion, the better a player can be and usually is!

A (reasonably) delofted club does a lot of good things and its primary goal is NOT to gain more distance! Its to get better & crisper contact irrespective of lie, with a penetrating ball flight ... hence accuracy and consistency in any conditions!!! e.g. the same distances with no ballooning of ball in the wind, no duffs , tops etc ... but more of the same every single time!

An amateur should work towards better impact conditions to improve their golf game and lower their scores ... they should seek help from a coach ... or they should absorb (with a filter) the wealth of information that is available on the net or books etc

Everybody ... keep your pants zipped up ... and keep the real goal in mind ... Peace

bro, easy for you to say when your 3w is longer than my drive

Well honestly I feel golf is about having fun . If hitting a 7 iron a gazillion yards makes Lee happy who are we to judge?

And you only keep your pants zipped up if you have a tiny ..... Otherwise you flash it as much as you can. That's life, deal with it Smile

Besides aiming to shoot lower scores and trying to out drive/ hit longer then your peers is essentially the same thing. It's just different levels of personal
Satisfaction. Maybe your fly is unzipped and your accidentally hangIng out Smile

hey guys.. thanks for bringing this thread to life after so long.. i feel so loved..

I've managed to gain back my distance by seeing a coach.. its like magic.. 1st lesson change grip 2nd lesson change takeaway 3rd lesson change posture... my distance poorer and poorer.. pull slice all also have.. then suddenly 5th lesson change something.. and it all gelled together..

i use 145m-150m as a gauge for my 7i because it is sort of a sign whether im swinging correctly.. once it drops i know im doing something wrong thats all...

Now my 7i is hitting around 145m after coaching but I'm playing 90s and 100s.. Hope you guys wont flame me, just wanna share my experience that coaching can actually help improve distances through better contact...

my head keep lifting up when down swing.. some time can keep still, some time cannot.

It is hard to explain to you in words here. I would suggest you watch some videos or better still, hire a qualified swing coach.

Especially for irons (even for hybrid & FW to a certain extent), if one doesn't swing down and thru, he would not get the maximum distance. Besides that, you also need to learn how to lag coming down at the ball.

If you merely just swing easy & sweep the ball without doing the above, I doubt you can achieve 150m or more for 7i. Smile

When I was a beginner, I always been told to keep my head still.....but later I realize, I start having injury at my upper body becos of this.....likely its becos I swinging wrongly in the first place.

Since turning into a seasoned beginner, I learnt fm my coach Anika thru waching golf channel. Nowadays my head is no loner still.....just like Anika

My fren said I play like girl....I can live with that

If you're looking for a range with showing yards instead or metres, you can try Laguna Range.

Haha had a seriously good read this pm sans golf reading this "2nd hottest thread after chrisD according to 2008" from Page 1 to here.....! Thx bryanachong for the revival... It really paints a picture of the different pools of opinions and characters out there in GR, some holding office in the forum (posting caustic, sometimes funny and other times hurting comments) to forummers (newbies and older ones) who sometimes post innocent sometimes naive and oft-repeated experiences/ statements....

Reminds me of PM Lee's call to Singaporeans to be more gracious esp to foreigners. In his speech, Mr Lee cited a recent New York Times article as damaging to Singapore's reputation, as it causes others to view the country as xenophobic. "When a foreigner says or does something wrong, the response is vitriolic, but bad Singaporean behaviour often goes uncriticised, and a good deed by a foreigner often goes unnoticed, he said." The vitriol towards foreigners, especially in online discussions, is quite out of the Singaporean character, he observed.

Our ego sometimes gets the better of us and when our paradigms are challenged, have a tendency to infer others as being like a "troll" or "coward" attesting to negative connotations but yet when fellow forummers "yawn" and add credit to their own similar out-of-topic comments about viewing a movie, it goes unnoticed, as they say "swept under the carpet"... There must be at least 90% or more fence sitters on this particular thread trolling, enjoying and picking up the good that it provides.... Reminds me of another thread that was closed re a claim re lady's flex 7i hitting about 190m"

I believe Lee's postings are all within the topic and genuinely wants to share as well as learn from us as GR is possibly one respectable golf forum in the region which many others outside Singapore check out every now and then... cept for the bit which he made an honest mistake in not identifying the "200m distance was by a 5i n not a 7i".. He too has my respect for remaining cool, gentlemanly and civilised despite the many bricks being thrown at him from all different directions without first trying to clarify the points of contention...

Sorry about being Topic OFF here but as I reflect the 28 pages of this topic I just feel we shd be more gracious and kind in our words to those who might not agree with u, be they Singaporeans, PRs or otherwise, so that as a forum we can learn much from each other.... War

I only just saw this today, so brother jeffman88, if you were referring to me, then my apologies.

Continuing on that premise, I have been meaning to express for some time that you are indeed a gentleman, and your postings are level headed and just, and always refreshing to read.

Here I must confess a past sin. I have, before my recent re-discovery of big brother J, the golfer with the +infinity handicap, been carried away in the sin of self-centered ego. I sought the glory of distance.

Now, with the error of my past ways written all over the heavenly G.O.L.F. instruction manual, G.O.L.F. as in God, Our Lord and Father, I now seek only Him. I say a quick little prayer as I tee up, and if I hit a good shot, I know that's the Holy Spirit, not me. Smile

I recently discovered a wonderful scripture which I thought would be interesting to share here.

Ecclesiastes 10:10 (King James 2000 Bible ©2003)

If the iron is blunt, and he does not sharpen the edge, then must he use more strength: but wisdom helps one to succeed.

Peace. cheers

Haha forgot about this thread .

What personality would you derive from the following forum
Avatars.

1. Bangla123- honest hardworking worker from
Bangladesh

2. Tour swing

some one who thinks he/she swings Or has similar attributes to a touring golf pro but is funny enough is not on a golf tour of any kind?

Passes judgement by calling people names like " troll ". Passing judgement through name calling and ignorance.

Tsk Tsk may have tour swing but a fools mentality.

Hope it helps!

Bishan driving range is in metres. Can see the print of "50M" and "150M". I think many had hit the 100M board too often, now can only see "100"
