no worries bro...golf for us (seasoned) beginners is like that. Sometime I hit drives well, iron well, chip/putt bad. Next time I chip/putt OK, drive OK, iron like shit. Just yesterday, my iron shots were pretty good, but the rest are bad.

when the stars are aligned, then all can perform together...but those stars just dont want cooperate hor Laughing

On a serious note...

If you find it hard to hit the irons... take a step back and focus on something else...
(I know what some of you are thinking... I am not thinking about XMM)

For say... a target... select one short target, example 50m and take an easy 1/4 or 1/2 swing with the PW just to get the feeling of a good contact. Focus on the line you want the ball to launch... not your swing.

Keep doing this with different irons until you find the 'g-spot' feeling again, then go on with the full swing. But still keep your focus on the line you want the ball to launch, not the swing. At any moment you find yourself distracted by any form of swing thoughts, you are more likely to end up with a bad shot. Keep your mind simple and just focus on the line that launches towards to target.

Got this tip from my coach and I find it really useful.

Hope it helps!

No lah, I was playing more with driver woods and hybrids that day. You never see my irons, can vomit blood man.

Anyway, doesn't matter who's got more notches and what league of gentlemen we are in, always enjoy playing with you.

Come see my coach la, I'm sure he can help you also. He don't overhaul your swing one, his focus is on the impact position, so less traumatic.

@ Hoppie,
It will take time to translate from the lessons with your coach, to the range by yourself, then to playing on the course. But that eureka moment will surely come for you as it did for me and Wilkang.

Translating good hits on the range to good hits while playing on the course is a transition every golfer has to go through, like the 70's disco song says, "don't push it, don't force it, let it happen naturally."

Thanks BM, currently quick happy with my swing at the moment. Iron hitting about the distance I expected. Driver, not as long but still happy with the distance and disperson so cannot complain. Needed to be more consistent with my wood though. But will bear in mind in the future if I am not hitting well again.. Very Happy

btw, when is our next game ah? Very Happy oops OT liao!

Ok i will try my best and see if this eureka moment struck me. Now playing low 100 to 11x, can never break 100 due to the irons not working well, hopefully the Eureka moment come soon, i can't wait to shoot below 100 leh Sad

I think to break 100, essentially your short game and putting have to be better...

Hoppie...scores although may be important but at your current stage just leave it be.
Concentrate on your basics & fundamentals and you will see your score improve gradually.

Haste will not cultivate the passion and without the passion, that eureka moment will most likely sneak you by.

Like what Dave said, break 100 is easy, no three putts and don't duff chips. Focus on your short game first.

Get a putting mat to put with at home. I have one, and do you know that if I have a so called good stroke but I don't practice for a couple of days, the stroke 'jao' like crazy. Never underestimate the humble putting mat.

Here's a tip, everytime you play, just write down on the side of your scorecard how many putts you take. You'll be surprised to see how many strokes you can take away from just putting alone.

The goal is two putts max per hole, par for the course. To expect to 2 putt over 18 holes is not easy and puts too much pressure on yourself. It sounds difficult, but if you chip well and get close to the hole, it's already a 1 putt. So if you chip close for a 1 putt 3 times, you have a buffer to 3 putt three times. That plus all your other 2 putts, and you are par for the course with 36 putts.

Easy peasy! Break 100 already! Very Happy

i remember when i broke 100 and den 90, there were 3 key areas :

1. no mistakes on the 2nd shots on par 4s and par 5s
2. chipping and pitching
3. putting

these 3 made the differences..

on a bad day, all these screw up. on good days and normal days, these 3 will work normally..

Also hor, wait for that magic first time you break 100, it gets easier to repeat after the first time, like losing your virginity. Same for breaking 90 and 80.

Want a good article on how to break the barrier, get the April issue of Golf Magazine (American edition). The cover story is "How to break 80. Your 6-week plan to lifetime low scores". Pretty comprehensive stuff.

Also features the Club Test 2011 for the 29 irons tested and rated. Very Happy

Yesterday I had 3 three putts, 2 duffed chips, 2 lost balls, 2 went OB, went to water hazard once, and I took 2 extra shots to get out of one bunker.

Without those mishits, I would have scored my lifetime best Laughing

yeah thanks for the advice, actually i have a coach right now, I will check with him this coming weekend. I actually able to hit it during the lessons but unable to repeat it during my practise session at the range and even on course, i seriously upset and dunno why.

Don't you find it strange that you had changed something from lessons to practise session to course and not know about it? Perhaps just try to stick to what your coach taught and don't try anything funny, especially don't try to imitate others on the range. If you want to try, show it to your coach, see what he says and I bet you learn more from his analysis than wasting your time figuring it out yourself.

Hoppie, at your stage of 100-110, getting below 100 maybe easier than you think. My answer to you is Course Management. Everytime you are in a hazard, whether in bunker or behind a tree or bushes, don't try to aim for the pin by trying to squeeze through a small gap. I know I always did that at that stage of my game. Thats why its difficult if not impossible to break the 100. Because everytime you cheong for the pin instead of taking 1 stroke out from the hazard, you added 1 - 3 strokes if not more into your overall score EVERYTIME ! Tell me I am wrong here. If this happen 3-4 times in a game, and resulting in your range of 100-110. Then if course management comes into play, the strokes saved will get you below the 100 easily. Go try it just for 1 game without 'cheonging'. Hope to hear good news from you.

Titu
