in various sports, grunting and shouting when making a shot is said to give oneself an extra kick or more power to a shot... in another aspect, it also meant to invoke some effect against one's opponent mentality especially in one-on-one sports like table tennis, tennis or badminton... think serena williams..

however, this is food for thought for you guys. i actually got this from sunny. try humming or sticking your tongue out when you are hitting. becuz of the humming and the tongue action, you will find yourself not being able to swing at 100% without stopping the humming or biting your tongue. this is more for shot consistency rather than hitting it longer...

I got a friend who advocates opening the mouth (just slightly) when initiating the downswing. His reasoning? I'll prevent him from tensing up and less tension = a smoother swing.

Bro Navik, Must qualify if this friend of yours is a single handicapper or not leh. If he is then I don't mind trying. Scarly if high handicapper, suddenly my score fly higher then will be jia lat leh .... lol! ROFL

Bro Titu, it works la... No need to wait for the course, you can try it right now at home, just not in front of the kids or your wife. ROFL

I've read about it a golf magazine before. And the techniques of humming, sticking your tongue out, a slightly open mouth are all variations used by teachers or coaches in the know to relax their students. Even smiling works. Ever been really tensed up when you were smiling? No right?

All work similar to a deep breath which is slowly let out. It's just that the deep breath triggers the relaxed state and the techniques mentioned above keep you in an extended relaxed state.

Bro Birdie, I rather looked stupid with my ugly smug than looking like a gold fish trying to play golf ah... ROFL Scarly one stupid bee decides to take a break from his day's work and flew into my open mouth to rest then how ???? affraid Smiling may work for me though as I have an ever "pak chee" (handicap look) smile everytime...
