PostSubject: Should I trade Titleist 910D2 for R11?   Sat May 21, 2011 4:58 pm

Hi Bros,

I have a tendency to miss-hit shots towards the upper face of the driver face, thus causing shots to balloon.

I noticed that the R11's face is significantly taller (more hitting area measuring from top to bottom of the driver face) than the 910 D2.

2 questions:

1) While hitting at the center of the face is always ideal, will swapping for the R11 penalize me less for the mishits for my case?

2) I used to hit with the R9 Max before the switch to 910D2, and i loved the sweet feel of the R9. R9 vs R11, any significant difference (apart from color) ?

Will appreciate any comments, thanks!

Darren

If I'm not mistaken, the "taller" face aka deeper face is meant for players with higher swing speeds. Personally, I prefer the R9 series to the R11.

Ah.. thanks shamusan, that;s the word i was looking for.. "Deep" Smile

My swing speed should be ok, using stiff shaft currently. Measured at the den, high swing speed, but my driver swing is too "Iron Swing". Not enough of the horizontal sweeping motion, thus costing me distance Sad

I'm think of changing from D2 to R11 too!
I'm just pissed with the shaft adaptor issue from Titleist, they are so inflexible.

Can some bros share their feedback?

Hitting it high on the face is probably due to a negative angle of attack or hitting the ball on the downswing. Don't matter which club u switch to it won't help the mishit. The 910 is more forgiving than the r11 generally speaking

The R11 is definitely a less forgiving club to play meant for better players with higher swing speeds as Shahmusan said. The deeper face means a higher CG, and that translates to a more penetrating flight, only higher swing speeds need apply. The head size of 440cc only is also another giveaway since better players prefer more compact heads for working the ball. For that same reason, the R11 is less stable and less forgiving driver to hit.

I'm hazarding an educated guess that there will be a more forgiving R11 on the horizon soon for those who like the driver but wants more forgiveness and higher MOI club.

The next one should be a higher launching 460cc R11.

Oh no.. any other drivers with a deep face?

I had the impression that deep face = more forgiving towards high/low mishits. While wide face = more forgiving towards left/right mishits. Since my problem is usually high/low mishits, i had assumed R11 will be more forgiving for me Sad

I'm using the r11. But I think changing the driver won't help. U should just tee lower instead.

You might want to try the Burner Superfast 2.0 which is also deep faced. It might not look so because the face is larger overall compared to that of the R11, but you can prove it to yourself by putting the R11 and Burner driver heads side by side for comparison. It is also a more forgiving driver, engineered to be so to accommodate its 46.5 inch shaft. It's also lighter than the R11 and the face is draw biased with a closed look at address, which may or may not be to everyone's liking. But definitely easier to put in play than the R11.

Just from the look, I used to think that the R11 seems to have larger face than the 910D2... 910D2 face looks very "narrow" to me..
Never tried 910D2 before until a couple of weeks ago, and with my (lousy) swings, I hit more center shot with the D2 (10 shot each, alternate every 2 balls) - surprises me as I thought it would be much harder for me to hit.
I also tried the Superfast 2.0 and it looks easier to hit (than R11), but as birdman says, the shaft is veery long and am afraid can't handle that consistently.
Tried to go to fitting, the recommendation shows really short and light shaft (44.5 and 55g if not mistaken) and 10.5 slightly closed face.

... methink it's because my swing still ironlike huh? so instead of buying the driver immediately I go and try to find a coach now Razz Very Happy

The look of the burner just turns me off... and not so sure about the longer shaft. Thanks for the suggestion though, Birdman.

I think I'll give the R9 Supertri a try...

R9 Supertri is a good choice too Herman. Deep faced, forgiving, and 460cc. Better priced now as well since it's considered old model. Can't go far wrong with it. Don't worry about it being an older model, R11 improvements over the R9 are only incremental. You'll gain more than you lose.

dude, nothing wrong with using a short and light shaft ... my favourite shaft is 44.5 and 50g ... CPM 237 when first installed, probably less after run in ... unfortunately broke it during a game, now struggling with borrowed drivers ... will probably have to fit the same shaft back in ...

my 2 cents worth, if u go for a fitting, trust the recommendation ... the vast majority of golfers will not be able to drive the ball more than 250m

I managed to get a R9 Supertri S shaft 55g from one of the bros here.

And i have the answer to my original question.. YES i should!

I feel much more confident with the Supertri, thanks to the deeper face. The ball (much higher %) goes straighter and further (feels like it, can't really see!)

Overall I'm really happy with the change, the Supertri is more suitable for me Very Happy

3 weeks old Titleist 910 D2 Stiff Adila RIP shaft available for sale! Anybody? Smile

I think Golf Direct have a few pieces of 9.5 degree Super-Tri left in commonwealth, you may wanna call and check with them to save the trip. Or if you wanna buy a used 10.5 Super-tri, I have a piece for sale.

Btw, you will not get that sweet feel from the R11 compare to your used R9 or your present 910D2. R11 face feels thick and harder to get in on impact. Comments according to my personal feel, for I have all the drivers mentioned here, 910, R9, Supertri. The only one I used for less then a week and sold off is the R11.

Another thing I experience on tracking machine, as long as it's Taylormade, the roll is definitely better (less spin) even comparing to my 910D3. Anyway that applies to me and I dunno if other players are the same.

Lastly, anyone have the Japan R11? The one with the orange crown. I think the material used is different. Anyone who had tried it, can PM me the feedback? Dun wanna hijack this thread. Laughing
