i average 230m-250m with the driver, longest drive to-date at Bintan, J.N. course, #18, 283m Smile i also average 50m-100m lateral dispersion from the fairway with the same club Sad if i can eliminate that, AND get a driver fitted for my swing (m using a stock "NEXTT" golf set, unknown name, unknown everything and very cheap set bought from america, with a driver shaft that flexes WAY too much for my clubhead spd, i feel), i'l b in 7th heaven...only no money in the bank right now...

TM stock shaft should be from fujikara (REAX), S for Stiff and 50 for shaft weight (50g). If so, stiff at 50g should be jap specs (can just verify if the shaft sticker is in jap). Torque should be around 4 then.

my jap stiff TM burner stock shaft was measured at 230cpm last time.

230 cpm on a 45 inch driver means its a very soft regular or a off mid A-flex.

a LL flex is 208, a L flex is 218 cpm, average flex is 228 cpm, regular flex is 238 cpm, a stiff is 248 cpm...this is the flex for 45 inch driver, it the length is different, the reading will read differently too.

however the above is reading is without grip, if you did not remove the grip when using the frequency analyser, you have to ADD 6 to 10 cpm to the reading.

hi master DG

may i ask the following :

for flex, is there a range like +/- 5 cpm for define flex, for eg : regular flex is 238cpm (range 233 cpm to 243 cpm) or is it always fix on this number for a 45" driver ?

what happen if it is less than 45" or more than 45" ?

usually for frequency testing, we do it with grip or without grip ? which one is more accurate ?

thank you

dont call me master, unless you are referring to my cooking...haha

there are players who dont feel the difference between +/- 2 cpm (meaning a 4 cpm range) and some will feel the difference. i recently tipped my driver half inch and added 3 cpm and it makes a world of difference in the takeaway feel.

so in my opinion a +/- 2 cpm is within tolerance. however you have to factor in torque as well and for that, its an experience call rather than a scientific one.

the japanese use a difference configuration for shaft testing, but we use the american system develop by a gentleman call david eagar who developed this for PCS.

the shorter the club, the higher the reading. CPM means circle per minute. it is how many circles the club will make when you attached it on a 4 inch holder when you hole and release it. this is the basis of the frequency analyser.

my putter based on a 34 inch length is usually around 320 cpm. yes putter have frequency too. when we use different spine we can also change the frequency of the shaft, whether its driver or putter.

when you want to be absolutely accurate, measure it without the grip.

cheers...DGman

Hi DGman

thanks for the great info.

So we are looking at about +/- 2 cpm. With my very limited knowledge, i guess there are many different make and model of driver shafted in the market, with a fix length say 45", does it always measure up to the same cpm for these flex ?

Because I remember a friend of mine told me that R flex of one model shaft is different to R flex of another model shaft...so maybe CPM measurement could be a better way to judge ?

Hi Snowman,

I think CPM would be a more accurate way of measurement, rather than the specs printed on the stock shafts. For example, my S flex Fuji Speeder shaft on my FT-i was found to be of a X flex on the freq meter at the den. And it is also true different brands' flex differs from one another, like Fuji shafts are usually stiffer than what they print on their shafts.

hi 8168..

thank you.

I wonder is there a chart that shows different model shaft flex vs CPM ?

Maybe that could make the selection of clubs easier if i know what shaft CPM is suitable for me and base on the chart, I will know whether should i get a X, S, or R..etc

Ermm... i don't think so leh. Never seen such a chart anywhere before, not even on the internet.

The best is to get advice from experienced fitter. DG Man can probably tell you off-the-cuff which brand is typically of what CPM range.

i was at BFG today, smashing away shots at the speed/analysis area lol is Eric on this forum? or anybody happen to be around then? I was told it's too early to bother with any changes in clubs lol need to have a more consistent game first and need to start "dancing" with the clubs, feel the rhythm, right now too tentative/mechanical on the swing Sad but after taking a few tips, the machine recorded a 150m + carry with my 7I, clubhead spd of around 85mph. Driver wasn't consistent enough to make a call on it yet. But the den's awesome, definitely will b back ther when i can.
