How SERIUOS is Serious?

If you take lessons, practice correctly daily, chip and putt for about 2-3hrs a day. and play 9 every other day, I reckon less than a month. Very Happy

I'm not a serious golfer. That's why I'm still trying to break 100.

Can't get more serious than that... Full Time would be what Hank Haney did to Charles Barkley and Tiger Woods, at least 1000 balls a day then 9 holes in the afternoon (8am to 5pm).

Sir , what Ssquirrel said is true , that not full time .... Full time is wake up at 6 am , go jogging , rest , eat a little breakfast... go range hit 500 - 600 balls , bunker practice for 2 hours, Chip and putt for 2 - 3 hours , play 9 holes , have dinner , go range again to hit more balls , go home at 9 - 10 pm ... next day same routine.... thats full time ...

Ok lah, . I think maybe a bit less serious; maybe 3 months?

But need to leave your ego aside.

Spend more time practising short game. 60m and inside, chipping and putting.
Practise 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, and Full swings with 7i and wedge; maybe can work to a 5hybrid?

Then only play these clubs on the course. Think can break 100..
Also depends on the course lah.. if you have those difficult courses that need you to carry 200m over water..then maybe not..

Just throwing out ideas.. Very Happy

I think if you're really serious, you can always work out a game plan with your coach, and he/she will be able to work out a plan for you albino

my defination os wkend golfer:

driving range: once a week

chip n put: twice a month

18 holes game : twice a month

Is this defination appropriate?

Usually I would say about 3~6 months depending on the talent you have.

The most easiest way out is to play a 9 holes. ROFL

I definitely agree. Course management is vital, and I suck at it Sad

I think its the journey and not the destination that is more impt. I play for over a year and only broke 100 twice, barely even... Perhap this is what keeps me going, along with the frens you meet, the strange incidents on the course that you can laff about. My frens still laff at the time when i fell into a stream while trying to retrieve my ball in plam springs a year ago.... Sad had to contunue playing my wet berms.....

dont tee off with the driver, use 5 iron as ur long iron/hybrid shots, dont touch the woods at the fairway/rough, should be able to break 100 faster.

playing 'normally'...may be forever.

If you have an ego, using that 5 iron will also = forever. Just put some efforts into the game if you are serious about it. And practise hard on the irons. in a score 0f 100, the most strokes you need on a driver, won't be more than 18. and putts, you will need mabe around 40 putts. So you still need about 42 irons shots. Back to the same old theory. Aim for double bogey on all the par 4s and bogey on the par 3s and par 5s. You should be able to break 100 soon.

unfortunately those OOB from the Driver will really killed my score. roughly 70% of my lost balls are from the driver (i lose ~ 15-20 balls a round). Calculated if i tee with the hybrid or 4 iron, i will save easily at least 15 strokes.

still cannot figure why i can hit around 170m with the hybrid but only 190m with the driver. The extra 20m not worth the penalties.

practicing my 2 worst game, driver and putting, putting improved a lot (my last 9-hole games got a few one-putts, more 2 putts) but my driver is going down the drain.

will always remember the day i broke 100: 3 feb 08, i hit 99.
i'd been playing golf around 4 - 5 yrs, but never seriously till about 6 - 8 mths before then, when i started taking serious lessons and buy a decent set of clubs + driver fitting from bfg...

but after that, i din break 100 again for another 4 mths... haha

i'm not exactly a full time golf junkie...my golf regime is range once a week which include short game + putting practice, and 1x18 hole on weekend if possible.

i've been playing around 8 months now, i've only broken 100 on 2 ocaasions so far, and even that, barely in the high 90's. if i play a course 3/4 times over a week, i get confidence and understand the course management better and by the 3rd/4th day i can break 100. just played at nsrcc for the first time today, airforce-navy, terrible, DESPICABLE day, barely had 2/3 good drives, everything else was a joke it seemed, ended up with score of 117...now that i hav this membership, i should b able2improve over the next couple weeks quite drastically and look to play inside 15 over par within a year. This seems to be an unrealistic target for most but i believe that if u aim for the stars, u may reach the sky sooner than u think, so develop the confidence, i'd say don't rush to shave shots off ur score, look to get confident with ALL clubs in the bag, eventually, the game won't be as much fun without utilizing all available weapons.

this is just a newbie's opinion though...i drive it 220-240 on avg right now, but it's rarely a straight drive, can go both ways on screw-ups, not even consistent mishits, but i don't shy away from the driver cuz it's at this stage that i can live with screwing up so much, not once i'm looking to play tournaments and competetive golf...and i want to have my driver off the tee in those occasions...

Practise your swing consistantly, play with good players who can guide you, shud break 100 easily. But practise the right thing. distance not so important. Just play double bogey game with bogey as bonus. as long the ball is in play and not OB or lost ball...Good Luck..
