breaking 100: think if one manage his/her game well, it should be attainable within a year, most strokes are lost in 2 main areas......

1) penalty strokes ie OB, hazard, lost ball etc
2) in/around the greens

if one play around the hazard n keep the ball in play most times, i dun see how it cant be attained.

as mentioned previously, analyse the course, not all par3s are 180m, par4s are 400m n par5 500m, thus from white tees, just play smart n be realistic about your level of play, there are many ways to play par and sometimes there's a thing call a good bogey, as long as one keeps away from triple or worse, breaking 100 is very possible.......

for example; par 4 320m, bunker at 210-220m left n right, take 3w/5w n play abt 190m/200m, only left 120-130m to the green, no reason to cheong driver, if not a wood person, then play 5i to 150m, follow by 6i to abt 20-30m away from the green, away from greenside bunkers, hit those high percentage shots, dun need to cheong for GIR, chip on green n 2 putted for bogey, if most holes bogey follow by couple of double, then how not to break 100.......jmho

gonna spent 4-5hrs on the course, why get frustrated, work is already frustrating, so just enjoy the walk n company of friends........ u can be frustrated at the range, but once on the course, a wise old man said to me "why pay n be frustrated, so stupid"

Well said Slingy.
EGO is the reason y most cant break 100 or even 90.
I find it hard to play > 100 for more than a decade...( even at 1 round/mth )
with < 200m drives, whether off blue or white tees. ( 0 short game practise )
Not as a boast but to agree with what Slingy has shared and hopefully fellow weekend warriors will enjoy their precious games even more.
We are not S70E or the Kiss sisters..., at least I am not, anymore.

Why play below 100?? cost per stroke taken is higher if you break 100..... Razz

Broke 100 ~ 3 months after PC test (age 14)

Broke 90 ~ 1 year after handicap (age 15+)

Broke 80 ~ 2 years later (age 17)

Broke 70 ~ 14 years after that. (Once only at age 31)

It gets tougher as the years get on....

Edit: Broke 70 once only

S70B, surely you got talent... but between age 14-17, what's your golf regime like (range/pitch&chip/putt/18holes etc)...?

Wow! Amazing, S70B.

The only thing I've broken so far is my golf club at the range. Hit it a little too hard.

When I started, I only ranged every wkn with my dad before hitting the course for 9 holes. Did that till I got my hdcp and then started playing full 18 holes after that. Was a 22 hdcp until after sec 4.

After 'O' levels, I worked part time for a couple of months so neglected my game for a while. After that, I was full time golf for 4 1/2 months till I started polytechnic. My dad dropped me off at Keppel Club 7am every weekday and picked me up in the evening.

My session during that full time 'season':

7+am - 11am : 18 holes

11am: Quick lunch + 50-100 balls

12pm : 18 holes

4pm : If there is a slot, another 9 holes with evening golfers. If no slot, another bucket of balls and chip+putting practice till dark.

My handicap during this period dropped from 22 to 8. It stagnated at 8 and ballooned to about 11 during Poly days till after my RSAF training where I concentrated more on the game again.

Right now with my career more stabilised, I can have equal parts practice and equal parts work. Its a win-win situation at the moment till I am more permanently based in Sg. Smile

Roystonnn,

I had no life after 'O' levels thats why I can concentrate on golf.

It 'ballooned' after that cos I found more time for girls and became a more typical teenager... Laughing

Actually, it was a 7i. Shaft was rusty at that point. Gave it a good whack. Too good, it seems.

In the past probably I think it's no life.
But now, if you allow me to do that, I would be more than happy to spend lots of time on Golf!!! keke.

So, you became a man after O Levels..
I think sacrificing just 3-5 strokes in exchange for girls sounds good to me.. bahaha!!!!
