FYI: News from Strait Times
MEMBERS of the prestigious Singapore Island Country Club (SICC) have voted down a proposed $25.5 million upgrading of one of its golf courses.
They also rejected motions to sell up to 450 new memberships, including social memberships, because of concerns this could undermine the club's exclusivity.
The votes were held at a lengthy extraordinary general meeting (EGM) last Friday night.
About 700 members crammed into the ballroom of SICC's new $100 million Thomson Road clubhouse for the meeting, with another 300 watching via video link from outside the ballroom.
Usually, about 200 members attend general meetings.
The meeting lasted about six hours, until about 1am on Saturday. It was scheduled for four hours. The club has about 7,800 members in all.
