Hi,

Was wondering the following and hoping any kind soul can answer....

1. What is the purpose of Off set in clubs?
2. As a players' skill improves, does using a club with offset damage your game?

Offset gives a player more time to square the club face ... And therefore works well for slicers.

Additionally, it lowers and deepens the COG resulting in higher launch.

As a players game improves, offset may result in hooks, and higher/ balooning shots.

Most, if not all, "player/ tour" irons have minimal offset.

When come the long irons... there are bound to be some kind of a offset to allow easier hits on the long irons. Unless you are like one tour player that i know who is very sensitive to offset, if not, just hit the ball.

From what little i know, it would take a seriously good clubmaker to adjust the offset without impacting other factors, e.g. Loft, bounce, etc

This is a question for DGMAN!

Most brands now have tour versions in forged cavity back, which are still very forgiving! Give them a try!

Callaway Razr X Tour has been getting rave reviews ... Titleist AP 1 & 2 are worth a look as well ... If u cant get a look at those , try the R9 TP irons and taylormade Tour preferred CB ... These clubs are usually for mid-handicappers at least ... However, you may just find them forgiving enough ... Its a persoanl thing Beer

Well, those are out for me as I am still a highest-handicap player. White Flag

in all honesty, I guess I am just looking for an excuse to buy a new set of toys as I want to go from graphite to steel shaft. And change my cobra ZL to titliest 910...

For the titleist 910. it just looks sooooo square / neutral at address that I like it. Tried looking a friends K15 driver and just can't look at the closed set-up. Also couldn't stop hooking the ball....

And I know that it is normally the golfer, not the equipment...I guess I am just trying to justify for my itchy fingers.

BTW, DGman, when are the clubs arriving????

you guys are good....winston ask about offset, now OT to insurance.

some of the best player in the world use offset irons (Lee Westwood), most of the beginners use offset clubs, one of this year's major winner use both offset and minimal offset irons (KJ Choi - Ping and Miura).

as long as you know where to place your ball, is comfortable with the club at address, do not have a massive negative angle of attack, offset clubs can work for you.....and vice versa.

Even AP2s have some offset right?

As DGman has said about addressing the club, I do like some (minimal) offset, it makes it easier to put your hands forward at address.
