PostSubject: Newbie to GOLF checkin' in   Thu Jul 14, 2011 12:13 am

Hi all

I'm new to golf and would like to begin at the driving range. I've been to it twice and i never felt comfortable.

i understand the posture swing and stroke plays a part in the game but i would like to get my equipment down first.

So i decided to borrow a friend's No.1 iron and hammered away. I'm about 1.86m and i found myself slouching to touch the mat for contact (He's about 1.7m).

Didn't feel comfortable to me since i have a bad back as well. Is there a requirement to get longer irons for guys my height? i mean, this is not like basketball where one ball fits all right? even bowling balls require custom drilling too?

If i do not require such an expensive beginner driver, what brands should i look out for? Would the irons at cash convertor help? or 2nd hand on ebay? i've seen people giving away beginner golf sets as well but i never felt comfortable to take unless i will use it.

Hope to gain some insights. Sorry for the long post and annoying questions

Cheers!!

bro....trust me....I am almost a golf journey-uncle liao. Don be like me......and become what I am today......don walk the path which I took

one advice: don be too worried into equipment, sign up for a golf lessons.

but if you want to really get into equipment, don mean to be a wet blanket,,,,,but at this level, any game improvement clubs also can....nowadays golf equipments have very good price range...and such just go to the marketplace or 2nd hand shop to get one..

remember...my advice...don take the path which I took....

no.1 iron? wow. i think you can start swing 7-i or 8-i first or may be some wedges. getting pro lesson can lessen your pain in learning and more fun in golfing. not sure how many people can hit 1-i, but they say "only god can hit 1-i". even pro hit 2-i the most, very seldom or very very rare 1-i. i hope that helps.

totally agree with DS....

take lesson, learn from pro...they are the best investment in golf, equipment can always come much later....

i'm not sure if its No.1 iron haha i has the biggest head though.

so take golf lessons first. what about height issues? i can still use the standard golf starter set?

no requirement to get a longer club?

Firstly, that one with the biggest head is a driver not an iron.
Unless ur arms are very short, you do not need any fittings for now.
Please go get lessons to learn the game the right way. Golf pros will teach you the things you need to know. Smile
Enjoy the game.
