PostSubject: Question for bros using PING and eventually switched out?   Sat Jul 16, 2011 1:37 pm

Hi Bros,

wanted to ask you bros who used PING in your early golfing years and switched out of it and found it hard to do so?

What happened to me who I have been playing my old Ping ISI for almost 10 years until recently I picked up a set of Mizuno MPs( Damned chio) but I have problems adapting maybe due to the small offset and it being more blade like.

Pings as u know in the past have huge offsets and a huge club face.

Maybe its my swing la. any bros have the same problem?? I know Westwood played Pings the whole life and never ever changed out of them.

Hi,

I don't think your issue is as much changing from Ping to another brand but perhaps changing from a very forgiving set to a less forgiving golf set. I suspect that if you had changed to a less forgiving PING set, you would face the same issues as now.

For myself, I faced the same problem when I moved from a set with more offset and wider soles to the set I use currently, with slight offset and less perimeter weighting. U feel it at the range, and even more so on the course.

On the bright side, if you are willing to put in the time for lessons with a good coach and to practice, these less forgiving clubs will sort of force you to develop into a better ball striker.

Keep at it!

Just bite the bullet, get a new set other than ping and train hard.

My first set was a ping eye 2 berylium copper. Still have it in Jakarta. Then I tried Cally X20, it was OK but offset was huge, kinda off putting after a while. Then Mizzy MP 57, sexy but was too tough. Went to Cleveland Hibores, very friendly but bulky looks make me want to look at sexy clubs again. Bought TM TP forged, very nice. Easy and sexy. Still have it, it's for keeps

Still, backside itchy went back to Ping again. Just love the look of Ping stainless steel. No other clubs like it. Now I play i15. I may change my back up set, but primary set will be the i series. I hope they will continue this series with i20, i25 etc. The S series is too demanding for me. The G series is too bulky for my taste.

Another thing you will have to bear with when you change out of Ping is the distance. Chances are you will need to use 1 club longer to achieve the same distance because Ping has stronger lofts that other brands.

I used to use Callaway X-14 with rifle 5.5 shafts for almost 9 years before moving to Nakashimas with KBS shafts for 10 months. Then, was smitten by the looks of the Ping Anser forged last year June and bought it with their regular AWT shafts. Now, I am using a Ping 7-iron to hit what I was previously doing with a 6-irons Ping Golf
