borrow club and get friends to teach can, but your friends must be very good. But the definition of good is subjective depending on who's standard.

Some golfers started that way but at the end learn the wrong stuff at the end still need to spend money to engage a coach and re-learn. And this re-learn can be very difficult for some.

So most of us will advice to engage a coach to start the game in correct footing.

Welcome to the most "annoying" game in the world.

Since you have 2 other friends who are interested, it's easier.
Cost per head per lesson is definitely much lower than taking individual lessons.
Most coaches at driving ranges also provide clubs for beginners.
You will however need to buy a glove, and rugged sport shoes/ or golf shoes for a start.
Discuss with one of our forum coaches or coaches at driving ranges that are closer to your home/office(s). You can start with a package of number of lessons, see if the game is for you after that, and invest in a decent set of clubs (can be secondhand) later.

Once you have clocked another few more posts, you can even pm individuals you get to know on the forum and seek personal advice. You will also find many used golf clubs and equipment on sale in the marketplace. You can only PM after 6 posts, i think.

Good luck, welcome to GR and welcome to the wonderful game of golf...

Hi Anhah,

Welcome to GR!

Its good to see more and more people taking up the best game in the world Smile.

Its good to start the right way in golf. You should consider taking up some lessons because there is alot to learn. Most people dont take up lessons from the beginning and end up having bad mistakes and habbits.

I am a golf coach based in Turf City. I specialize in one on one and group lessons.

Feel free to send me a message if you have any questions.

Regards

A good start is very important, and a good start means learn the right and good stuff from pro. Thus, investing $$$ in lesson is the right thing to do.... and you need to find a good pro to give you a good fundamental skill set.

Welcome to GR, and also welcome to this sport, beware, it's extremely addictive ...haha !!

Hi ahnah, welcome to Golf Republic, and don't mind the guys, especially mengteck71, they're just kidding.

If he really wanted to coach that way, his nick would have changed to Valentino71 rather than still be mengteck71.

Ahnah,

A correct start is extremely important. like the bros here said, if you learn from you friends, you might learn the wrong thing and you might end up spend even more to correct the mistakes...

Coaches usually have clubs to loan to you once you engage them.. I would suggest you take up lessons with the pros before getting a set..

tsk tsk.....mengteck71 is sooo naughty. But he is really just one enthusiastic and friendly fella whom you can learn some good swing tips too.

But nuff said, best to see a pro to start you off properly.

Welcome!

Welcome. Great game.

Personally I would recommend investing in lessons. Myself I prefer individual vs group but thats my preference.

The golf swing although it looks easy - it really isn't so many things need to come together in terms of timing and weight transfer in order to hit a good iron shot.

Really, you won't regret taking lessons from a good pro.
