Lee, are u sure you're m'sian?.....i tot the standard m'sian approach to golf is see ball, hit ball, pray hard, then write whatever score u want anyway.......

i personally am not a fan of too much technical info...which could possibly be limiting my potential.......i think writing about your experiences here is interesting though to be honest, i don't understand half of what you're saying.....

there are many ways to get better, yours is a very focused and organised method....i doubt many of us don't have the will to practise as hard as you do ( i know i don't).....but keep on sharing and don't be fooled by slinger....the only loft problem he has is when he pulls the wrong club from his bag....as in, alamak, used the 60* when he meant to use the 56* wedge...

Ah, but I want to see how he answers, if he was indeed putting on a charade, let's see how it holds up.

Nonetheless, the discussion may be useful to others, whether or not Slinger was sincere or need the help or not.

Thank you for cluing me on it, and for insulting all Malaysians. Laughing

Because I spend so much time training and researching, I have no time sharing knowledge with people who are disingenuous. Nonetheless, perhaps others will find the points useful and relevant.

I guess some egos are so fragile, they feel a need to attack someone who improves and expresses himself. Yet, the sense of self-importance is not matched by courage, so the attack is disguised. Come guy, was the passive-aggressive approach really necessary?

I do encounter a few "I have been playing golf since before you were born, so what the heck do you think you know" type of characters here and there.

Typically, these are the ones who eventually fall behind because their minds were closed to new knowledge a long time ago.

One of the best knowledge I ever gained was from an american teenager I met on youtube. Humble and unassuming, yet playing golf professionally with a superbly sound swing, he was very open to share his knowledge with me. I owe him a debt of gratitude.

i only chip with the same speed..... sometimes good somtimes bad

repetition is what most golfers sought... but not all have that ability

certainly not me...

if i have that ability, CCC will buy my disc for his viewing pleasure....

when i practise, its may seem easy to put the ball near....

when i go on the course, its easier said than done...

focus n mental n course conditions are some of the factors that come into play...

eg 2 holes down with 2 to go..... u know u need to put the ball near or into the hole, the tensions are building within u, its diff from the comfort zone on the chipping ground

eg 30 paces from ball to the hole but green slope down or up, u need to readjust the pace to get the ball near, its diff from the flat chipping ground

i know what i need to do..... sometimes i can do it, sometimes i cant

its human nature, i am not perfect..... so for me, its LOFT

We are all students of the game. Slinger is a very good player, but he may still be able to pick up something useful from his discussion with Lee, even if Slinger is a better player than Lee (based on the scores they shoot).

Slinger is a real gentleman and I am sure his discussion with Lee will be taken in the right spirit. Something we can all aspire to.

Exactly. You are right.

When tension builds up, the muscles get tight, and the swing you remember from practice cannot be executed by a tight set of muscles.

So..............

Why do you attach so much importance to a shot when you know it will screw up your ability to perform the shot?

That's why I forbid my playing mates from telling me how I am doing. I do not want to know. It does not help me in any way to know. Chances are, knowing will in fact hinder my performance.

So, I attach ZERO importance to any shot. No different from a driving range or practice green shot, except the scenery is prettier, and helpfully and hopefully, so are the caddies.

The current saying on tour is, "trying hard not to try."

If I WANT the shot to get close, I am GONE.

If you are still interested in discussing, think about where or which part of your body you monitor "speed" in order to "chip with the same speed."

for matchplay.... unfortunately, u need to know the scores

i wish i can attach zero importance to any shot.... i doubt i can, my fellow kakis are out for my blood every game Very Happy

some horses need to be whipped to run faster...

some horses need to be sayang to do the same thing....

i am the hybrid... sometimes i want to be whipped, sometimes i like to be sayang

Lee, what i am saying, is that i am not perfect, i do know what i need to do, if golf is such a easy game, just block off all negative thoughts, repeat what i did on the driving range, i will be playing on the PGA....

what about u? i am glad u shaved 10 strokes off, but do u think u can shaved another 10 strokes off by next month, since u do know what u need to do with your swing....

breaking 90 may seem easy.... but to play 70s score is not a easy feat, at least for someone with a LOFT proplem like me

btw, i leant the most when i am on the course.... still learning

Ah, I did not consider match play, I understand what you mean.

"what about u? i am glad u shaved 10 strokes off, but do u think u can shaved another 10 strokes off by next month, since u do know what u need to do with your swing...."

Breaking 80 within 1 month is a stretch, but not impossible. It would take some planning on my part.

But once I start in my new job, the time for practice will be drastically reduced.

So I am giving myself until year-end to break 80.

Which means shooting in the low 80's consistently within 2 months from now.

Which means I need to fix my driver swing, my bunker topping issues and my long-iron and hybrid accuracy within this month.

I will be posting my progress here, for all to comment/laugh at/admire/etc. Fear of public failure is a great motivator.

Thanks guys. Hope it lives up to the big reputation that precedes it, although knowing Miura, I'm sure it will.

What do you guys think of raw steel wedges?

It's not even mentioned on the official website, but I found out Miura does them, on special order, and you can choose the custom grind you want. The esteemed Mr Katsuhiro Miura will do the grind himself. Talk about being touched by the hands of god....

Sounds interesting right?

The feel of the black forged wedges have really grown on me, ok I'm addicted to it, and I want MORE of the feel, the touch, the sweet note of impact.

Yesterday at the range, a Mynah bird was hopping back and forth among the chipped balls, looking to eat insects that the landing balls stirred up. And I had a fun time trying to chip to hit the moving bird. I never did hit it of course, the bird is not stupid, but it was a fun way to sharpen both my aiming alignement (the darn bird kept moving) and the distance feel of my wedges.

Now in the process of experimenting with my short game shots to see what sort of grind would fit me best. Also need to bear in mind the type of courses I typically play - the type of grass, rough, etc.
