PostSubject: Encounter with my first Blade   Fri Aug 05, 2011 9:45 am

Hi, just wanted to share my first encounter with my first blade.

It all started when Jon (aka Ms Lee) posted up in marketplace selling his VR Pro Blade iron head, follow by multiple sleepless nights and lots of courage, that I finally drop Jon a PM, indicating my interest to purchase.

The reason why i mentioned 'lots of courage' is because I have never hit a blade before neither have I tried out the VR Pro blade, and totally have no confident to hit a blade at all. I must be nut !!

At that time, I was using this :

The 'backside itchy' sickness had total control over me and about a week ago, I finally got the blade head.

The condition was superb, #3 and #4 iron was brand new, never hit a ball at all and the rest of the iron heads condition were great. It's definitely a great deal from Jon.
I started to plan out how to build up this set and this are things to be done :

1. Decided to tentatively leave #3 and #4 iron alone, just do up #5-PW, but will go do up #3 and #4 iron later for sure
2. Paintfill the number to 'Red'
3. White ferrule, Golf Pride Red VDR grip
4. NSPro 950GH shaft (pull out from my slingshot set)
5. Built Swingweight : #5 and #6 to be slightly light D0.5 and #7-PW to be at D1
6. Adjust lie angle with reference to my slingshot set
7. Check loft ensure same as stated in Nike Website, do not want to adjust the loft, worry that it might affect the bounce
8. Check and record Head weight, Lie, Loft, Length, Swingweight, CPM and Total weight

And this is what I have :

Last night, I brought them out to OCC range , prepare to face my worse nightmare that I might not even hit a single ball with this blade.

So as usually to my range routine, I go to my 60*, 56* and 52* wedge to hit some balls, get myself warm up, and i took a deep breath, walk to my bag and took out the PW.

As I was doing a few swing practise, I told my self "ok, time to face it, dun expect too much, dun force my swing, just keep it simple and easy". I address up to the ball, took a deep breath and swing on it. The moment i complete my swing, I saw the ball launch, going straight to the target at 100m and in my mind, i was " wow...it launch, straight" then follow by "Nah, maybe it's just my luck".

Before i knew, i was hitting balls after balls with this PW, and it launches almost exactly same and all went straight to target, distance range about 95 to 105m....i was 'wow..holy shit'...then I move on to try on my #9 iron and then #8 iron and i was hitting like almost 130 balls.
I have mishit and shank about a dozen balls and can definitely feel how punishing it is if I dun really focus on hitting it right...

Comparing to Slingshot tour, i notice VR Pro blade give me a higher launch without compromising the distance, the sweetness when flushing it was orgasmic, the blade is definitely less forgiving and punishing if i dun stay in focus.

I tried and manage to hit it with my PW, #9 and #8 and wanted to call it a day as the range lights are starting to switch off. As I am packing my bag, I saw there is still 1 ball sitting on the automated rubber tee. I stared at my #7 iron, took it out, walk to the ball, setup my address, and told myself "it's ok if I shank it"...and swing on it. I saw the ball launch, i complete my swing and my mind was shouting "Holy shiiiiiiittttttttt !!!!!"..I walk back to my bag, keep my #7 iron with a big smile.

Well, i'm not gonna jump into conclusion that I can really hit a blade iron, but definitely, i was a happy man last night.

congratz mate.

my experience with blade is that it's really nice when you hit it well. A little bit of encouragement, I used to play TM R7 CGB iron at the start of my Journey on this game. Was hitting from 120++ to 90+ at the span of 3 years and then stop at 90+ with occational high 80 score.

A few months back decided to try blade (MP68). Now I'm playing at average mid 80's with some low 80's (have not yet broken the elusive 80's finger crossed)

Not sure why, but I believe you are rewarded for hitting well with blade and there are severe penalty for hitting extremely bad shot (blade is more forgiving these days). That in itself encourage you to hit better and hence more effective in unmasking the underlying problem (your swing not your club) and improve your overall game.

Anyway enough of the rant and happy golfing.

Thanks bro

yes indeed, it's quite punishing for having a bad shot....

what i gonna do is to just take it easy, take my time to drill in my swing for me to manage the blade and occassionally shank or mishit is ok for me....haha !!!

hi bro

thank you....

As for the paintfill, there are a few method but this is how i usually do it :

1. Use acetone to remove the original paint (usually black)
2. Use Tamiya paint to fill up the number and leave it to dry. I usually just leave it for a day.
3. Use nail polish remover, to remove the Tamiya access paint.

I usually repeat step 2 and 3 to give at least 2 to 3 coating, making the paintfill more lasting.

If you need any help, feel free to let me know....

Snowman,

Congrats!

The blades will improve your swing by its pure feedback like you never imagined.

You will 'feel' your swing much better for sure.

Enjoy the journey.
