PostSubject: Driving range encounter..   Wed Sep 07, 2011 9:28 am

Feeling bored and wanting to practise my swing,
grabbed my sunday bag and headed to one driving range.

Driving range as usual is crowded and as usual alot reserved bay stating lessons.
But that not the point, have still managed to get a bay and practicing away.

About left 20 balls out of 100 i think, I noticed someone standing at the back looking at me practicing.
It is annoying and frustrating as i am a newbie to have someone watching me and worst he stood there throughout. Evil or Very Mad
When i turned back, i think this guy is waiting for my bay as i can see he is holding his clubs. As I actually wanted to hit another round. So i actually asked him if he was waiting for my bay, he replied "No".

Left around maybe less than 5 balls, i looked back and he disappeared and i was like ok finally he was gone.
Left about 3 balls, he reappeared behind me putting down his purchased range balls waiting for me to go off... Suspect

After finishing my ball, as i walking to my stuff, he asked "you finished?" Rolling Eyes
I told him "actually i wanted to hit another round, but you buy the balls already then how??"
He was like quite taken aback from what i said..

He proceeded to place the balls in and i left packing up my stuff.
What will you do if you were me?

Honestly, I would not have given in if I am not done yet. I am sure you have have had difficulty getting a bay too so He can jolly well wait too. He got the cheek to buy a basket of balls when he replied that he was not waiting for your bay. Just because he bought the balls you have to give in! Next time tell them that you are gonna take a while and its better that he don't wait.

i would have continue with the another round practice.... since he said no when you asked him.... so why give up the bay... beside... bay on a public driving range is hard to get when crowded....

Good Idea.
Next time if someone is standing behind watching me, i will go buy drink, walk around go toilet or read the Golf publication.

I actually wanted to purchase another round. but at that point of time, am quite upset Crying or Very sad so i am pretty sure my next round of practice will be very lousy and worst.
When he was watching me, my practices alot of duffs and slice..

Nope did not stay to watch him whole time. Rather go home and see wife instead. Laughing

it is good practise lesson to have someone watching over your back when you hit. This way you learn to play under pressure which happens on every first tee.

I'd rather watch ladies on the range... esp the ones with hot pants and hotter legs. Will sooth any nerves... confirm no more duffing

That is so true. But i prefer to practice without someone looking at me from back. Laughing

One weekend afternoon, when i was playing at the Mandai Executive, nearly same situation with 6 to 7 flights behind us watching and scutinising your shots on the first tee.

During crowded days, it is quite normal to have someone watching behind you. I take it though I'm at the first tee. But I will not give up the bay until I'm done, even if they bought a basket of balls. I'll smile and tell them politely I'm not quite done yet (they can wait if they want too). Once I'm left with only a few balls, I'll top up.

Not sure you guys encounter this at Bishan. There is always some other nationals and they tend to speak a bit too loud. It can be very frustrating especially when you are trying to practice your swing Sad

I think it's ok as long as that someone don't disturb you lah. If not, you ask him go where to wait? confused
The newspaper thingy is a no no. Imagine you go to a range and everyone is occupanying the bay reading newspaper instead of hitting balls, what will you think?

I would politely tell them i am not done yet... go buy drink, buy balls, slowly slowly swing... practice swing 20 times before hitting each ball...

Lol. If you are at Bishan, you will notice there is a Pro (not local) and they really really talk damn loudly. However I must admit that some of his students are quite a sight to look at Very Happy

To be fair, not only other nationals as locals do the same too. I hardly go Bishan but it happens even in the non member section at Keppel especially when a guy tries very hard to impress someone (usually girls) and trying to teach (even if it is forbidden).
