PostSubject: Putter Lengths   Wed Oct 05, 2011 1:51 pm

Hi All,

Actually I have a question. I am pretty short.. but generally the so called higher end putters out in the market (SCs, Bettinardis, NCs etc.) all come in stock 33"-35". I believe i would require something that is like 31"-32" and I would need to cut them down to size. However, this would affect the weight balance of the putter etc.. unless i do it at a scotty putter studio or something (if i buy a SC)
HOw? Sad makes me even sadder for being short.

then the ladies how leh? Are they not entitled to use great stuff like the SC? (not trying to say that ladies are short.. but just in general..and also juniors?)

how do you all get ard this prob? =(

Then don't buy ready made putter. Go and get yourself fitted. There are many fitters in town who can address your problem.

I think my putter is around 35 but i hold it around 32 inch area just to have better control of my putts (personal preference). But i have the option of holding it all the way up for long putts with the same stroke and tempo. So far so good.

You should get fitted .No matter the club in your bag .... it should always be design for you. match the club to you stroke or swing... Go see mark higgs as he is a PGA profesional as well as an outstanding club fitter. his knowledge of the golf swing is great and simple . with him he doesn't just club fitt you , he give you lesson or tips about you swing to improve it.

Instead of shortening the putter... Why not lengthen it to become a belly putter?

$$ Crying or Very sad haha..

reason why i wanna get those stock putters is coz Scotty mah.. makes me feel good abt the club.
i think my number one barrier is that i need to feel shiok about my club (like carry prada or LV bag like that.. hehe) then when i play, also feel shiok. hahah =p

I agree with the comments above about going to see a fitter. You'll be surprised to know that your height doesn't automatically mean that you have to use a shorter putter. It boils down to your stance when you putt, how you putt etc. So, best to go see a putter fitter like DGman at Big Fish if you want to be sure Smile

Well guys my view on this topic, fitting is vital for even the putter. i'm pretty short too, about 1.69m. My current putter is sitting at 31.75" only. I've come to realise that length not only affects the lie angle at which you setup the putter at, it also affects the eyeline being above the ball.
For the balance, i'm using the Ghost spider and been using every spider model.
Dont have the balance problem cause i changed the weights in the head to be alot heavier.
Makes it really nice to use cause the head weight is much heavier and at that length, my arms are extended rather comfortably

Maybe this would be useful to you bro Supermaninunder

Considering your putter is so much shorter than normal, i would think adding weight would be a natural thing to do otherwise your swing weight would be way off.

A 1.0in change in club length equates to a change of 6 SW points, while 1 gram of change on the head equates to only 1/2 a SW point. Assuming your putter originally played at 34 inches, to simply maintain the original swing weight, you would need to add a whopping 27 grams to the putter head.

I never knew Taylormade had changeable weights that were so heavy.

Why dont you open a new thread with the information related to fitting/clubmaking TM products? Im sure there are alot of TM fans here.

thanks man gadgetbear..mebbe someday i should try out your 31.75" putter to see if it suits me eh.. we're same height! haha.. but yeah, i know its true that height doesnt mean shorter putter length etc..

however, it brings up another issue: if i've been practicing with a longer putter (33") ever since i've took up golf, my stance, stroke etc.. everything would have been accustomed to that length already isnt it?
whats worse.. sometimes i hold low, sometimes i hold high.. results in: i have no proper/fixed stance or stroke.. *smacks forehead*. i'm hopeless.

Why don't you "mark" your grip with a point of reference.
In this manner, you Not hold it either too low or too high in future.

because sometimes i seem to putt better when i hold it at the end (mebbe its coz of the swing weight/balance issue) and sometimes i feel like i'm more over the ball when i hold lower and the putts are not too bad as well..
headache man.
so inconsistent, how to ever be a consistent player? haha
