Currently, i have 2 hybrids diff brand and model, one 20* and one 24*. at the range, i hit the 24* much better than the 20*, on flush hits the 20* flies further, but i am more consistent hitting the 24* flush.

On course, even at distances which I should be hitting my 20* hybrid, i will always take out the 24* as long as the front of the green is not protected by hazards. This would probably continue until I can confidently hit the 20* or 17* more consistently than the 24*, you only get one chance on the course, unlike in the range where u can hit multiple balls to get it right.

ok bro, i gather that your tip therein is that consistency is key.

may i then ask which are you more consistent with - the 24* hybrid or your 4 iron?

mox, i think u are deciding whether to keep your 4i or get a 4h....

since u still got space in your bag for both..... why not u try both clubs on the course n decide

i was also deciding on the 4i/4h but i go with the 4h as i was more consistent with the 4h than the 4i.... be it rough or fairway

i also can putt from the rough with the 4h.....

i also notice u dun have a gap wedge n a 3w in your bag.....

hi slinger,

yup you are right... i have considered having both in the bag but it would be a waste if i get a 4h (especially if it is an expensive one) just to test with the 4i. So I was thinking of getting a 20* hybrid, easier to justify the expditure cuz it is not a duplicate Smile

i dont think i can handle a 3w. In fact, I am having problems with the 5w and will be taking it out of the bag shortly...

On the gap wedge, i will shortly be getting fitted for one, but cant decide between 50*, 51* or 52*, although maybe there isn't much difference. My pw is 45* and sw is 56*.

I'll say that 4-iron is easier to control the trajectory . i mean is easier to bring the ball flight down . hybrid usually have higher launch and less spin ..... but with your swing speed you should been hitting 4i

If u are keeping the 4i n getting a 3h, look out for the overall length.....so that the distance gap will be more progressive

U might want to check the loft of your 4i, say your 4i is 22, your 3H will be abt 19 n half inch longer than the 4i...

Think 51 is a better gap wedge loft.... U can either buy a 50 or 52 n bend it to 51

Good luck on your 5w, u do need a fw to gap the distance between driver n 3h.....

Hi Threadstarter,

As far as I am concern, there are several conditions before I can decide the right club to use. Examples are, how tight is the fairway, wind condition, lie condition (though u mentioned vaguely light rough), your form on long iron versus metal-wood on that day itself, how you wanna play the next shot (or you wanna on), pin position, is there alot of green to play on, etc.

Thanks guys for all your input.

I've been trying out several different hybrids and a couple of them are really easy to hit (and coming from me means they must be reeeaally easy) and has given me confidence in the hybrid.

So I've decided to get a 20* or 21* 3H. Although only 1 or 2 degrees less loft than my 4i, the 3H gives extra 10 plus meters distance and is much much more consistent.

Cheers!

Somehow my 4i launch lower than my hybrid. So on windy day, I will put 4i into the bag. Also, need it in the bag to punch back into fairway after all those wild drives...sigh....
