PostSubject: Recommendations for Junior Sets   Sat Oct 29, 2011 1:34 pm

My kids just starting out.. so looking for a value-for-money set to start them off. Not sure if they have enough interest.. so thought of getting a set that is not too expensive but good enough (lightweight, forgiving, etc). If they really show interest at a later stage, then will invest in getting better clubs for them. Kids' details as follows :

Kid 1 :
Gender - Girl
Age - 5.5yrs old
Height - 110cm

Kid 2 :
Gender - Boy
Age - 4yrs old
Height - 93cm

Any advise or recommendations on good junior sets pls? Some people advise me to get unused club and cut the shaft.. but I don think that is ideal because the adult club has a much heavier head and cutting the shaft makes the club imbalanced. I need to get 2 sets otherwise kids will fight.. so price is a factor also.

hi, US Kids is good clubs and hv clubs that suitable for kids as small as 4 yrs old. U don't hv to buy complete set since they just started to play, just buy the 7 iron or P wedge will do for them to try out n see how far can they go.
my son is 10 n he is using US Kids too n we bought it form Golf House at Marina square (n remember to ask for discount..).
and saw this US Kids in ebay.com.sg...so u might check it out fast coz the bid end on 31 Oct.

I work quite a bit with jr golfers. What is said so far is accurate with US Kids. However, one negative point that I have personally experience is that once they are use to the 'lightness' of US kids, it's quite difficult to switch them to better clubs.

I have 3 kids (4,8 &12) who are from beginner to single h'cap. I'd recommend you to let them learn to putt first. This is something which is often overlook. My personal preference is to fit them with honshin clubs. they make great clubs for kids and you can get one club fitted first and add more as their interest grows.

Make sure you get a coach that's good with kids & good luck.

Thanx Artloh.

I intend to 'coach' them myself. Yes.. my plan is to introduce putting to them first. This should get them into the basic swing movement. Once they are able to grasp putting, the irons will be an extended/exaggerated swing from the putting motion.

Any idea what kind of cost i should be looking at if i were to fit them with honshin? And where can i get it done?

Cheers.

The initial few mths will tell if the kid picks up the sport. More than half usually gives up within 3 -6 mths. IMHO, let them join a class with kids their age. The progress might be slow, but at least they are interested. Once they are hook, you can be assured they will ask to go for training be prepared to spend $$$$ & time.

I did that but when my son grow up, busy with school schedule and have less time for golfing, he lost golf interest and pick up new interest ( bowling ) where his poly kaki's are into it. I send him to Rick Jone ( BBDR )classes when he was 8, he love it and was with me every time i go for range.Slowly school work tie him down. With the old school scheme of Express/Normal streaming, i tend to move him towards his study, less golf. Soon it was PSLE. He started again in Sec 1, but not for long. Again school CCA's and project take his time. Then come O level. 1st year poly, change interest..bowling. Slowly his interest in golf died. He began to watch bowling on youtube more than the Golf Channel. 2nd year... still bowling... Smile
