PostSubject: TM Burner 2.0 vs TM R11 (Driver)   Tue Nov 08, 2011 3:15 pm

Im looking to get a new driver from TM. Deciding btwn the 2.0 Burner and R11.. Anyone with experience using both or either can share?

Tried the R11 once. I like that the cg is concentrated more on the bottom or so it feels to me.

just to share - I am using 2.0 tp 10.5 deg regular flex - light weight, forgiving n low spin.

The TP face is slightly open at address? 20% of my shots get sliced when i use the driver.. so if its open at address.. I dont need to play anymore Very Happy

an open clubface doesn't necessarily promote a slice.
an out-to-in swingpath with an open clubface is the no-no combi..
so in some cases (esp with the pros), an open clubface at address is preferred as they come in-to-out and flip the wrists at exactly the right moment to square up the face at impact...

i stand corrected...

Well yeah focal, true. But i slice because sometimes i forget to close my club face fast enough.. So until i fix that, open clubfaces are a nono for me.

then again, there's that triangle that you can adjust to close the face right?

Yes. The triangle does help i guess. I think the R11 is neutral at address only the TP version is open at address. Hit the R11 before. Like it pretty much.

Hacknet. There is a TM Demo @ JCC range Next wed 6.30-9.30pm. Checkout golfgreedy and register. Will be headed down to the demo to test out those stuff (:

Both are good and deserve a try ... so are many others

Would help if we knew your handicap and swingspeed?

My brother uses TM R11, I use Burner 2.0. My drive is about 20 metre more than him on average and we play together every weekend. I'm using regular shaft and 9.5 loft. I've also used a stiff shaft but I like the regular as it gives me more "snap".

My brother is usually more consistent with the R11 although we both usually get the drive onto the fairway or just off in the rough.

It is a matter of preference but if you have been using the more conventional drivers than the R11 maybe more natural for you. Burner is abit longer and took me time to get used to it

Just to share....when I was using the Cobra S2...I spent time adjusting n training n playing...then an old pro prompted me one day at the range - "young man...it's your swing n not the club"....so I dumped the s2 n went bk to the Burner SF...

I tried both before settling for the 2.0 with Fubuki Stiff spesc becaue of the looks and weight. Both are forgiving drivers but you may want to know these differences which may "affect" your decisions:

(1) The R11 has smaller head size (440cc vs 460cc) and they looked vastly different (2.0 has this smooth tear drop shaped that gave me a more aerodynamic look).

(2) R11 is heavier towards the head while 2.0 felt a lot lighter. This will affect your game towards the end of your game if your swing is not as strong.

And yes the club face for TP on address is more open (i think 3-5deg more) but then again a more open club face does not necessary promote a slice... my advice is to get the driver that gives you better feel and confidence, a little difference in distance can be compensated once you get used to the club, i feel.

My humble comments.. happy hunting!

Some advise for me who is still discovering golf clubs..

So for Driver..
Is it better to get one with bigger head or smaller head??
And 10.5 or 9.5 or 13.5?
What does the differing of degree means.. when you hit?? what impact?? higher?? shorter?? how to look out for these degrees.. is it written on the driver shaft etc??
what is striking angle??

the club head material..
what are differing type?? 5-1-1-1.. what else??
that 5-1-1-1 means what.. 5 for what.. 1 for what.. etc..

some driver when you hit it..
some felt dead!! e.g. some callaway..
some felt empty!! e.g. some macgregor..

is it better to get one that can propagate and spring your ball further??
is there any bad things/point with this kind of driver??

Pls advise..

i was told that for most of the players, 10.5 will be easier to hit. 9.5 the ball tends to fly too low.

10.5 , 9 , 13.5 are all the different launch angles of the clubs, bigger the number, the higher and easier (supposed) it is to launch the ball. Personally i started out on the 10.5 it has pretty decent launch and 13.5 is kinda hard to find for drivers.. Mostly are in the range of 9-10.5.

The 440/460cc refers to head size of the driver, again, bigger number means bigger surface area to hit which translates to it being easier to hit ^^ My current ( still my first) driver is 10.5 and 460cc, makes a good training club.

As for 5-1-1-1 i have no idea whats that about, never bothered with such a thing, neither was such a thing inscribed on my driver.

Feel - I think thats for the more advanced player to talk about after getting the hang of using the driver, probably thousands of balls later. (im also not there yet)

For you, since ur still discovering ur different clubs, just focus on launching the ball straight. So do I. No need to focus so much on the nitty gritty details. Too much info also no point now.

Cheers! Beer

ive been using the r9 super tri for awhile now, and i found that even with all the adjustment options, weights and stuff, after hitting 2 basket of balls, i still went back to the neutral setting. not because i was bombing right on but because i knew my swing wasnt consistent all the time and the neutral setting gave me the best judge of how things would turn out. it might be the same on the r11, just a pointer.

Feel the urge to spill.

Have the R9 with Graffaloy Booyah Stiff (9.5) and just bought the Burner 2.0 regular (9.5). Figure the Burner will be back up driver. Made all kinds of adjustment with the R9 and in the end returned to neutral. No chance to adjust the Burner of course. Realised with the R9, I set up just past sweet spot, near toe. With Burner, I set up a little closer to toe. Both times, it comes off sweet spot for trampoline like effect (ok ok, 1 out of 10 balls). Distance at range in both cases just shy of 200m. Difference is Burner seems to have less spin and takes a bigger bounce every time. With regular shaft, I am forced to slow down and have smoother tempo. Otherwise I hoot the ball and visit neighbour's fairway to retrieve ball.

Itchy for R11 but figured since everything plays back neutral, no point. BTW I have the R11 3 wood which I also set up at neutral. Hope this is useful.

Feedback: Hit the NSRCC course (army) this morning and used my Burner 2.0. Impressed.
Hole 1: Narrow and need a good drive in the middle of fairway. Easy swing and wow, it flew. Hit every fairway. With my R9, I swing harder and it gives me maybe 10m more but I can never guarantee landing it in the fairway.
