When nothing is wrong, they happily collects your premiums. But the second you make a claim against them, they come up with myriads of excuses and reasons to avoid payment. My case for example. When I purchased my insurance coverage for 30 Critical Ilness years ago, I was informed by my Insurance agent that on being hit by Stroke, one of the 30 Critical Ilnesses covered, nothing was mentioned at all that I must be physically incapacitated by it, you will be able to claim some some form of benefits. So I put in my claim recently and the reply came back was I was not physically incapacitated by the attack thus I was not entitled to claim anything at all. But that was not what I was told by my agent when she pursuaded me to buy. The policy was sold to me on the pretext that once it was proven to be a stroke, I will be able to make a claim. So, any expert on claims can give me any reasonable advice? Appreciate any feedbacks. Very Happy

PS: Not just one Company but two different Companies. Thats why I branded them as frauds.

@TS: Jason any comments? Can PM me any advice and don't worry, I won't quote you ha ha.Tks buddy.

Of course Bangla, however it would be nice to have the best of both worlds. Anyway, arguement was that the agent misrepresented the actual T&Cs by saying on diagnosed that you have such CI, you are able to claim. BUt if by choice, of course Health is Wealth. No doubt about that.

Titu,

I am not an insurance person, can I ask if you are claiming for hospitalization or TPD? My gut feel is that TPD requires a person to provide proof of disability. I mean if you are totally or partially disabled. So, if you are not disabled as a result of the recent episode, then how would it be possible for you do claim?

Bro, if you bought such a policy after 2003 you will be able to file a claim even if you totally recovered from your stroke. That is because due to different Insurance Company interpretation, in 2003 the Industry came up with one which standardised the interpretation with once you are diagnosed with one of the CI , you are able to claim. Mine was from '98 and 2000,...so nothing for me .

Titu,

Thank god you did not get the claim.
Should they pay you means you are almost there leow.
The word "Critical Illness" already say it all.
Meaning it is critical ....and you have very little left.
Unless, they have redefine the " Critical Illness"

Hence, Congratulation!

Jason is correct, the fault is not in the company.
Instead of looking at the fine print you were looking at the fine figures?

Hi Colin, how r u? Yup health is wealth. I am all for it. I was totally covered in Hospitalisation cost. Just thought that the policy I bought through my friend have this covered when she she sold to me on the basis that once the illness was diagnosed as one of the Critical Illness, you can filed a claim without any issue. Guessed I was screwed by her misrepresentation. Well how do you define the latest definition given by the Insurance Industry in Singapore and GIA?

* From July 1, 2003, the definitions of 37 illnesses covered under the critical illness (CI) benefit will be the same across all 12 life and 9 general insurers providing CI benefits in Singapore. The Life Insurance Association of Singapore (LIA) and General Insurance Association of Singapore (GIA) standardised the definitions in the interests of both consumers and insurers, and all member companies providing the CI benefit have agreed to adopt the new definitions. The new definitions will apply only to individual policies issued, or group policies issued or renewed, on or after July 1, 2003

The CI benefit provides for the payment of a lump sum if a policyholder is *diagnosed* with an illness included in the list of covered illnesses in his or her policy. It is commonly sold as a stand-alone policy, or attached as a supplementary benefit to a basic policy. New policies will define critical illness events and, where possible, clearly specify the cause(s) of the event and the exclusions in order to ensure consistency in claims management. *

The word there *diagnosed* means when you get hit, you can now shout *bingo* right? I know this does not apply to me now as I bought mine before 2003. But from 2003 anyone who sufferred a stroke without permanetnt disability can now claim right or am I wrong again??

Titu,

I'm fine. Have not touch the clubs for past 10 mths.
When you are recovered will can have a game.

Along with *diagnosed* there is some definition on the 30 illnesses.
You have to base on that definition.

If you need more clarification PM me.

Titu,

in your condition and the condition of your policy contract, do accept that that is the reality. nothing can change - anger, feeling cheated or even victimised will not change anything.

concentrate on getting better and you can only do so if you are a happy bunny. do not let negative energy take away all the positive flow that you need to recover faster.

i have been reading your post and i sense a lot of angst even before the incident. if you have the time, please drop by and we can have a chat.

writing about this may relieve your situation but if you are hoping to reverse the situation, i am afraid it will not happen. in fact you may even feel worse. so concentrate on your well being and your family. play golf and take the time to smell the roses. spend time with the family. find something that you like to do. even if you do it for free, it will give you satisfaction and you will be a happy bunny.

in 2009 i had an accident and it was supposed to be covered by workman compensation insurance we took out. however it did not cover owners, so what to do, never read the fine prints so pay for the operation instead. the good thing is my very conscientious agent spent a lot of time tracking each policy and claiming every possible one for me. in the end i paid some money but that was good enough for me. if i had not been my own carelessness, the accident will not have happened.

That is the past, we need to acknowledge and move on instead of going around in a circle. will i buy insurance, yes cos it will ensure that our loved ones are covered if anything happens to us.

Cest la vie.

I don't think Titu stands a chance even he is insured under My Care.

My dad is covered under Elder Shield and he had his second stroke recently in which he spent a month in the rehab hospital. We did want to claim the monthly allowance against NTUC but was informed that as long as my dad is able to perform some of the basic functions like walking with aid, minimum assistance, etc..., he will not be covered.

Titu can still play golf, so it is really very very minor incident.

Titu, I always believe the rich will always get richer regardless of how the wealth is obtained. But insurance companies are not easy to cheat leh. Laughing
