How much did you score in your very first 18 hole game?

I am playing my first 18 hole game on Sunday at Palm Springs. No real reason but somehow it makes me nervous. Wish me luck.

I didn't even keep score in my first few 18-hole games. It was just getting used to playing on the course and experiencing its different elements.

anyway, good luck and enjoy!

118, lucky number.

But definitely not accurate as my playing mate was kind and limited my blowouts to double pars. And playing blue tee did not help.

I tried keeping score but there was too much to think about. like address position, weight, how I should takeaway, swing path, not swinging too fast, not swinging too slow, impact, 3 other people looking at me, etc.... My score must have been in the mid 100's. I was also having so much problems recording scores.

After a few long months, I realized I was not enjoying it. That's when I told myself to just enjoy the process of gaining experience & improving.

After 15 years, I am still telling myself the same thing Sad

I played 146... still got that bloody scorecard in my bag... pale

Some tips to help you cope with your first 18...

- Go early
- Prepare before going straight to the tee-box (i.e. ball marker, tees, gloves, towels etc) because you will find your first 18 very rush especially in the first few holes
- Have lots of balls (the last thing you wanna happen to spoil your game is to be worrying about how balls you have left in your bag)
- warming up with 30-50 balls at the range might help (not 200!)
- make sure you have the more experience friends to guide you through all the penalty rules because you will encounter tons of it! (good time to learn and remember)
- learn how to count tongue

and last but not least... enjoy the scenery... and enjoy the company and enjoy the game.. What a Face

I gave up counting after the first 9. I remember how much I hated the game midway through the 18. I felt resentful. And it annoyed me that I was able to hit the ball on the range but on the course, I was playing like an idiot. I almost gave up... but my coach reminded me that golf is full of ups and downs. And the start to every journey requires a warm-up. This was mine, and I'm proud to say that I've kept at the game in spite of a horrible first 18.

I dont even know how to count. Went before I finished my first 10 lesson in Taiwan Linkou East and South courses, coerced by my colleagues. Can only use 3 clubs: 7i (used for teeing off as well); PW, and putter. Somebody else's.

Scorecard said 127 (scored by my colleagues) but I am sure it should be 200 or so Razz I don't lose ANY balls (or maybe only 1? forgot if so) thanks to short short hit of my irons, plus when I lay up to the green, my 3 colleagues guarded all around and stopped any of my stray and overhit balls Razz

First 18 was a consecutive 2 x 18 holes at Palm Springs.. Brought a bag of 30 balls, think I lost almost all.... Even caddies couldn't help.

Score was about 135 but probably alot higher....

Got 128 with a loss of 6 balls.

2 consequtive in the water tee off in my 1st hole itself, then recoverd for 60 strokes in 1st 9. Deterioted and started topping off balls for a 68 in 2nd 0.

Did all the rookie mistakes...took my eyes of the ball, overswing etc.

Thought it was a tough course.

hahahahah, my most memorable i lost 14 balls straight or more, totally cannot think most likely scoring 150-180 hahahahahaha. that is in sembawang on the cow grass, as for OCC just a short 9 holes well lost bout 5 balls hahahahahaha.

happy golfing, its especially exciting when you send the ball flying over ponds waiting for it to end with a thomp (water sound), rather than getting over it. hahahahaha, well if you manage to cross the sand and the water the rest is not really a problem if you practice your swing regularly and most important swing easy. forgo the accuracy and distance, just enjoy first.

My first 18 were on a beautiful Bintan course. I proceeded to rip up HUGE chunks of the rough, the flowerbeds, the fairway but thankfully not the green. I stopped counting the number of balls I lost after 20 and I stopped counting the number of strokes after the first 5 holes. All in all, it was a terrible, terrible struggle against the backdrop of an extremely scenic course. To this day, I'm still wondering why I didn't just quit.

I MUST be a masochist.

I will never forget my first time ... it was at IOI Palm Villa ... late Dec 2008 ... extra memorable because the first time I had touched a golf club was 10 hours earlier, at MBGC driving range.

My friends decided to give me a used half set for as a surprise X'mas present, dragged me down to the range and let me try it out. I actually managed to launch some balls using a half swing so they thought it was a good idea to let me experience a real golf course the next morning (on hindsight, that was a REALLY REALLY bad idea). So at 5.30am, after 2 hours of sleep and still drunk, we headed off to M'sia.

I had no golf shoes, no golf clothes, no gloves, no cap ... u get the idea

What i recall from the game:

1) Wondering how the driver can make the ball curve so much to the right
2) Why when u want to hit it far (full swing), the ball moves 20m and when you want to hit it 20m (chip) you can blast the ball over the green
3) Why is there so much water in a golf course?
4) Why is the sun so hot ...
5) Why the soil can fly further than the ball

list goes on ....

As a result of point 5 repeated multiple times, I injured my neck so badly that it was hurting for about 3 months. That is when I started taking lessons and the rest is history ... Very Happy

Biggest lessons from my first time:

1) Brute strength gets you nowhere
2) Over application of above results in serious injuries
3) Golf is great FUN even if you play like a moron

In any case, welcome to the GAA (Golf Addicts Anonymous) and see you around the greens!

136 for me. But as so many have said, it's not the score that matters most, it's the enjoyment you get from playing =)
