hmm.. actually I don't understand the concept of not letting faster players overtake.. Is it an ego thing? as long as they are not rude or anything, ill just let them pass since it wont really affect my game except for the first few mins..

I am all for it, I have let a one ball pass us on a weekend before because there were no flights infront of us, and it was asked in a very polite way.

In the end, you will be stuck behind that flight, waiting for the jam in front to clear...no point to let ppl pass...anyway in MBGC, there is almost never a 2 ball. They always seem to be able to find golfers to slot in...unlike JB weekdays where you cannot see the flight in front.

If they really deleted the facebook post, I would be very angry. They should take feedback positively.

These days I lodge a complaint one or two levels above the person who I want to complain about. If no/unsatisfactory response, I go straight to the Chairman/ CEO/ MP/ Minister. They cannot say I didnt give them a chance to respond.

The chairman of Marina Bay Golf Course is Ng Ser Miang. His personal emaill address is public information at http://app.sgdi.gov.sg/listing.asp?agency_subtype=dept&agency_id=0000003590

These days senior people are very worried about complaints because things go viral very very quickly.

Do us all a favour - Set things right for the rest of us golfers who just want to have a good time on the green.

When I am on the expressway and even when I am traveling according to speed limit of the fastest lane, I will let a faster car to overtake me

But then again, I drive a small gap car....just like golf, I am just a seasoned beginner

BUT please hor, if the car which overtake me then start to slow down, then I expect it to reciprocate in the same manner

i like the marshall to be rude to some golfers such
- those takings 5 mins to line up every putt. Imagine 4 ball, all 2-3 putting each taking even 2 mins per putt is 16 to 24 mins!!!!.
-those that think they are pros and can hit the ball to land 3 m from you , even though its obvious the flights in front are slowing play.

Played there this afternoon and was bringing my boss for a swing test. Then I spotted the supposedly rude marshal (James) at the driving range. He is the supervisor. We exchange greetings and smile at each other. I don't find him rude. Maybe his hairstyle is a bit too young for him but that's his freedom. And that's about all it is. Maybe things started on the wrong footing and sort of escalate when ego got the better of a person.

"but in my observation in japan, USA, China, HKG, Dubai, it is never culture to let a flight pass."

Lucky you never mention Scotland... played golf there for more than 5 years and the slower front flight (or if they are searching for their ball in rough) ALWAYS let the the quicker back flight pass, even if the back flight is 1 ball. Becos they always do this, there is always no jams (usually my 4-ball flight takes less than 4hrs to complete a round in a walking public course... they all <6Hcap, I am the only one holding them up Crying or Very sad ). Maybe we should start doing that here in Singapore to speed up play.

The only time this passing practice is not allowed is during league games or competition. In those case, back flights will just have to suck thumb.

Generally, I feel the people at MBGC are all ok except for 1 or 2. I forgot to mention the game I had yesterday afternoon. One of my friend was late and reach the reception about 13 minutes before tee-off. After registering and changing in the locker room he was out at the buggy terminal on the dot of the tee time.

One of the marshals (Iskandar, if he is indeed a marshal) had a face as long as the PIE and was obviously displeased and kept pushing us to hurry as we are already late. Hurry we did and off we went to the tee box. Then we saw 2 Caucasians at the tee box in a buggy. We parked our buggies behind them, naturally thinking they are our front flight. Then one of them commented that we are late. We don't need them to lecture us about our lateness. As I drove forward and passed them I replied to the one who made the comment that they could have teed off first without waiting for us since we are late. And there's no other flight behind us. That shut him up because his other flight mates were not there yet.

One and half holes later the rain came pouring and off we return to the clubhouse. IMHO, other than the minor incident above, I don't think there are other big issues at MBGC, save for, like I said, 1 or 2 who tried to manage it in a regimental way. I think for them to behave in the manner they did, they are probably deprived of power and authority and there's no other way but to show it but on the golfers.

I am not sure if any other public golf courses around the world manage their club in such a regimental manner as in Singapore. If I may say, I think our Government started it all.

If you guys ever play in Indonesia and I am sure those whom had realized that, there it no such thing of late in tee off. You booked a tee off time (which most of the time, does not really matter) ... They work more like 1st come 1st serve.

Whoever got to the tee off box can just tee off. If you come in behind, just Q man ... I like it, no stress, no rush ... I can not imagine how my 1st tee off will look like when I need to rush to the tee box because I am late.

As a Singaporean myself. I will make it a point to be 1/2 hours early if I ever play in Singapore though. follow the law & rules Smile

Each country has its law and each family has its rules. Unfortunately this also apply to golf in Singapore. Similar to Indonesia, JB has not such problem. FCFS. Even the hassle of taking a swing test. My friend who is a Tg. Puteri member did not bring along his latest hcp card and was required to go for swing test despite showing last month's hcp. Following rules for the sake of following. Or to put it in a sinister way, profit. As long as you don't legitimately have the updated hcp card you are required to take the swing test. Money money money. Mad

Rude Marshall exist anywhere.
thats the sad part of it.
You just either to deal with it or just dont play there again.

In my own personal experience

Here is what we did to removed the course marshall...

We made a Signature Drive to either Removed Him or Transfer him to elsewhere.

Upon attaining 100 signatories, the course marshall was transfered to Caddy Master

Time to start thinking and put this into action. But then again, the so-called culprit have to be given a chance to change for a certain period of time. Within this period if he/she again received complaints from the public then the Management will have to do something about it. Mind you, this is a public golf course not a BMT centre.

Well TDO he probably pulled the PIE face because your friend was late and as a golfer you should know how important it is with being punctual. Only have your friend to blame for that and just be punctual next time to avoid PIE. But did he shout at you or your friend at all?

He wasn't talking in a normal tone. The tone was like in the "army" when a Corporal talk to a recruit, strict, if you had been in NS. We were apologetic but there's no necessity to manage a golf like you did in an army.

Like I said, it's only 1 or 2 black sheep who feels they are the authority and therefore display their power (if they had any outside the golf course).

I see. Well, just look at it in a way that you just have to be considerate to others who are playing behind you. If you are late, they get drag behind and so on. So yeah after all golf is a gentlemen's game so be considerate to others I guess and there's no reason you would feel you get the army treatment. Happy golfing !!

This thread talks about rude marshalls who are over eager to enforce pace of play.

Then there's another thread here that complains about slow play (Coach Tendy says...)

If I were running a golf course, I'd be scratching my head.

No offence intended, just making an observation.

The more we focus on what's upsetting us, the more upset we get. Then it defeats the purpose of the game; can't have fun when we're upset, right?

On the flip side, the more we focus on what pleases us, the more pleased we get and the more fun we'll have.

So to both discussions I'd offer this, take it easy.... it's a game, have fun.

Gong Xi Fa Cai, have an excellent new dragon year ahead.
