They are in essence the same thing. Both start left of the intended target and work back to the right (assuming you are a right handed golfer). I think the term "Cut" has become the cooler word for people/announcers to say versus "fade". For example Tiger in many of his post round pressers would talk about "cut this" and "cut that", instead of "fade here" or "fade there".

From my own personal view I always thought a fade was a more dramatic version of a cut. So for example if I wanted to hit a little cut wedge it would be a small 3-5 yard movement from left to right to control spin and trajectory (typically a little lower more piercing). Conversely when I wanted to hit a fade it would start much further to the left of the intended target, have a higher trajectory, and move more from left to right.

From the inter webs:

A “cut or fade”is a controlled shot where a right handed golfer would hit a shot designed to move slightly from left to right. A fade can be desirable because it will typically fly a little higher and land a little softer than a draw.
It is important to note that there is a big difference between a slice and a cut. A slice is generally uncontrolled and a cut is very much controlled.

Hope that helped a little.

Dan, you don't have to entertain Duval, he is just asking a rhetoric question.

Because in the first place, Duval is no beginner.

A cut, whether fade or straight or draw, is a deadly weapon of control and accuracy. I love using it from the rough. A cut w a 5 iron attacking the pin... hoooweee!

A Fade (HUGE) is what I normally hit with my driver ....

A Cut (small) is what I normally get on my thumb from jamming the plastic tee into the ground in frustration at the next tee box ....

I think there's a bit of difference between a "Cut" shot and a Fade.

One of the Best Fader in PGA nowadays is KJ Choi....
where his ball flies straight and will curve right

A Cut shot is normally described when a Golfer hits that shot using his irons / wedge.

it's a heavily topped shot, the ball rolls on the fairways, enter into a greenside bunker, continued to roll until it exits the bunker on the other side and finally rest about 8-10 feet from the flag

this shot is often used by Mloy, usually to give some hope to her opponents that they can win the hole (despite giving a stroke to her on that hole), but then usually getting dissapointed after watching where the ball rest.

and usually a monica will be followed by "wah lucky shot! Heng ah!"
