PostSubject: MGK Associate Membership   Mon Feb 13, 2012 1:33 pm

Is anyone here an associate member with MyGolfKaki? How did you go about getting it?

I tried to register online but without success. My hc is maintained by an overseas club so I don't need MGK to maintain it for me. But the only options in the drop down box are for Ordinary Membership (1 year or 3 years).

Derek - any idea?

Cheers,
TS

I only applied last week for associate membership; didn't have any problems with the online process. But hats off to Derek for expediting the backroom processing.

Doc, did you do it online? What did you say for handicap? Did you leave your home club as "OTHERS?" I'm guessing not since you have a home club in SG.

Yup online; hcp maintained by RCC. Didn't have any problems selecting the "associate" option.

or, i could just have been dreaming...

Guys, to clarify, to join Associate Membership, you must be an existing member of a golf club in Singapore and maintain your handicap with them.

Golf clubs in Singapore include Ordinary members of the SGA (clubs with a golf course to their name) or Associate Members ("estateless" golf clubs registered with SGA).

In your case TS, you can still continue to maintain your handicap in your club in Malaysia, but you only have the option to join me as an Ordinary Member

Thanks, Derek. That's unfortunate. I'd like to join MGK but it's not cost-effective for me if I have to pay for Ordinary Membership but not use the handicap maintenance option. I'm not sure why MGK cannot support clubs outside Singapore?

Perhaps I should just get MGK to maintain my handicap for me?

Hi TS,

Your are welcome to join me as an Ordinary Member and we will be happy to maintain your handicap for you.

As for the requirements for existing SGA related membership, I think you can appreciate why as a local club, the right thing to do is to support the local body.

Totally, which is why I'm actually considering getting my HC transferred across.

Do I still need to go for a courtesy round etc. with MGK for HC purposes or is it just a straightforward process once I get my home club to pass MGK a verification letter with scoring differentials etc?

Thanks, Derek! Smile

Nope, because you already have a USGA handicap maintained by your current club, it is recognised and can be transferred to us. No need for further testing. In any case, you have already played 18 holes with a member of mygolfkaki handicap committee (guess who Razz)

Simply get your home club to send a letter with the last 20 scores you played and we can begin to maintain your handicap over here.

Gentle reminder that you have be to NTUC member to join mygolfkaki, otherwise the corporate union rates at OCC will not be offered to you.

Sorry to hijack the thread. Bro Derek, I have my handicap maintained at another local estateless club and have NTUC membership. Can I still join MGK as an associate member?

My guess is that the difference is only the handicap maintenance. Associate members pay $60 p/yr + GST whereas Ordinary members pay $160 p/yr + GST.

But take note if you're looking to play in MBGC on Mons or Tues, only Ordinary members get the discounted rate of $69 (ex GST)

Yup, as long as the other club is a member of SGA, u can join MGK as an associate member.

Hi Beehome, with regards to differences in perks between Ordinary and Associate Membership.

At the current moment, the main perk that Associate Members do not get to enjoy is the $15 off Monday and Tuesday Golf at Marina Bay Golf Course.

However, each time the club manages to obtain a new perk for members, we make a decision as to whether the perk should be extended to all classes of members or just one particular class (e.g seniors)

Hope this helps.

Derek, I've informed my home club to transfer my handicap to mgk. Should I want until that is done before I sign up for membership?
