The idea is not to putt with the putter in the rough but to use it as a wedge like appraoch. It is not issue but I find that it is easier to control. Too bad the place that i usually play do not allow me to practice that. I did try it a few times in other countries. Results are not too bad!!

What would be the recommeded bounce for 60 deg? I play mostly nsrcc and for non bunker application.

It really depends on ur swing, and the type of sand / grass.
also, why do u say non-bunker application? one of the best uses for the lob wedge is to get out of green side bunkers

but if u'r really not sure, then i'd suggest going for a lower bounce.

To further elaborate:

If you have a steep swing and take deep divots, medium to high bounce.

Shallow swing where you can see the roots of the grass in your divots, low to medium bounce.

Soft turf (grass and and underneath like NSRCC, MBGC), medium to high bounce.

Firm turf (grass then earth underneath like SICC, Johor CC), low to medium bounce.

For a 60 deg lob wedge:

Low bounce app 4 deg.

Medium bounce app 8 deg.

High bounce 10 deg.

Bro, that technique works on your home course OCC, hardly any rough around the greens one. Wait till you kena the pubic hair rough around the greens, then try your Texas wedge lor. ROFL

Been there done that la... you need a steep angle to do it.... It was taught to be by a single hcp when I played with him in Bali a few years back and showed me how to use the putter to hit for both in rough (provided no obstacles in front) and in the bunker too! Very Happy

For OCC i normally use a AW or SW get it onto the green whilst the rest wait for me patiently on the green.... Embarassed

If the rough is only 1 inch, maybe can la. but if rough is 3-5 inches. U will prolly need a few shots to get out with a putter

Bro,

I hope one day you can teach me to do it using a putter. My problem is, I can chip better then I putt. Most of my golf buddy pull out a putter and I always use my wedges to chip even when the ball is on a short rough around the green.

I guess I am weak in distance control with my putter when the ball in short rough. I can chip closer to the pin then I putted. I just cannot get the feeling with my putter from rough so Embarassed

It might be okay I guess but really wanted to learn more to have more option in my game.

that's the danger with adjusting the loft on clubs. by bending from 58 to 60, you're effectively adding bounce to the club. which explains the thin shots, esp if hitting off the fairway / hard ground / sand.

something for you to consider...

After hearing from you and Pro Shorthitter, now i'm having second thought about 60 deg wedge. Smile

Bro, I am not good player to give any advise but this is just my personal opinion. I use 50, 54 & 58 wedges. If situation called for a high shot and hope the ball to stop fast, I just open up my 58 like an 60 wedge.

A good friend of mine gave me a 60 wedges free but I tend to have metal game issue when I hold a 60 loft wedge. I tend to slow down my swing when I use the 60, that really kill my shot. Really need to swing as normal in speed well and have the confidence to execute the 60 loft as far as I am concern.

However, "never try never know". Just buy a second hand 60 wedges and try it yourself. I felt, hitting it might not be a big issue with more pratrice .. Hit the correct distance in demand that really need allot of hard work to get it right, regardless whether it is 60 or 54 wedges.

Very sound advice and perfectly logical. cheers

But you are one of the few with forged katanas in place of your irons, the rest of us mere mortals only carry 4 to PW butter knives. ROFL

I don't practice enough, that's why have so many extra lob wedges on standby so I can do my scrambled egg routine. lol!

Slicer, I haven't really tried Blee's technique yet, but I think you shouldn't have much of an issue adjusting to it.

You know how some advice to chip with a putting stroke? This one is opposite, that's why it's called the Texas wedge. Using the putter, you address the ball the same way as with your wedge; weight on your left, handle leaning left also, so that it's ahead of the putterhead which is toward the middle of your stance. Then pick up with some wrist cock and chop down with a steep angle of attack. The ball will fly for a few feet, then land and roll the rest of the way.

Now I also itchy to practice this technique to widen my options around the green. Very Happy
