Fly right or slicing is very common in beginner la.. I used to do that until I found out what really happen. If means that the club face is open when you hit the ball and to remedy that you have to close the club face. Open club face mean that is facing to the right upon impact and to close the club face you would have to rotate your left hand until you can see your knuckles.

Hi trooper, just like u, most of us do golf for leisure only (doubt I'll ever be good enuf to make a living out of this!) tongue But still, IMHO, getting a pro for some coaching at early stage is helpful (before picking up bad habits). Developing a correct swing will enhance ur enjoyment of this game and more importantly, prevent injury.

Actually after a few mths of playing and if u r still doing 70-80 on 7i, good chance something maybe wrong with ur swing. Doing 100m on 7i, especially for men, should not be difficult. Wink

Something is not right. I would suggest you see a swing coach.

Most social golfers can hit 90 -110 m with a pitching wedge (48 deg loft).

70 - 80 on a 7I?

Doesn't sound right.

Even when I'd realised I've been artificially increasing my loft on my 7I and positioning my club head the wrong way, I still can squeeze a 120 yard outta my 7I. After my instructor corrected my club positioning, I'm playing 7 and 8I on Par 3s without too much effort.

Check with your instructor again. There's definitely something wrong if you can't break 100 yards on your 7.

Hmmm OK. I know I got problem with shifting my weight during the downswing now. Strange thing is before I started lessons and just started to whack the ball I could hit abt 100 to 120 but after starting lessons and correcting the swing, I m at 70 to 90.

Anyway I am still trying to get my swing correct with lessons from my coach, hopefully soon cos I want to try the greens soon!!

My experience is similar to golfian. Was managing 100-120m for a while. Got a pro to correct my swing and immediately during that one session, I managed 150m. Now if I hit it right, I can do 160m on 7i.. Smile

Started around same time as bro ahnah last year. Doing 70-90 mostly with 7i, at times can hit 100. Either going the "right way" and also way too right....lol.

Any coach to recommend to correcting the bad habit for better swing? Pm me please...

That's an excellent distance for a 7i.

Those who are hitting it around 100m can take some confidence and inspiration from your experience that it's relatively easy to jump from 100-120m to 150-160m with the right coaching.

just my 2cents worth on this thread for the slightly advanced players here. Knowing your distance on each club is not enough.

Know your ball behaviour upon landing. (Sit? Check and how far? Roll and how far?)
Know your carry yardage.

This will serve you well and you should be hitting more greens or putting it nearer to the pin.

See coach also must see a good coach. Don't anyhow see.

I was shocked to follow my friend once to his golf lesson. The coach was just standing behind my friend with arms folded and correcting his mistakes.

I may not be smart but dont bullshit me that the coaches eyes and experience are so good that he can spot the swing faults??? So many things can go wrong from address to backswing to impact and follow through. Naked eye cannot cope with the data.

Moreover, the coach was reeking of Tiger (not the woods but the beer). WTF!

I recommend going to coaches that use video cam. You can spot mistakes that the naked eye cannot. Long run you save money cos in one lesson can spot several mistakes at one go.

Of all the people, it has to be you. Not as if you already do not know...

You can only learn all these on the greens and in your actual game. You should be able to see when you land your shot or not look out for your ball marks and gauge it from where your ball is.

Driving range will not work because your ball would perform differently from the balls that you usually use.

Again, pls bear in mind that this advice is for the slight advanced folks.
