The grooves on the irons....The used balls I play with usually last me about 4-5 holes before that are some scuff marks on it....

Same to me, it is just plain complacency.

Strange. are your irons having non-compliant groves? cos I dont have that problem. scruffs only come when I kana the tarmac or rock.

Of course if I use cheap balls like the 50cts slazenger balls (I have 100), they scruff easily after 3 or 4 holes. But if I use noodle or Srixon, they are ok leh.

I using cobra S2 irons. Wedges Wilson FG. I highly doubt that they are non - conforming grooves. For the shreaded Callaway and Bridgestone, I went back to the shop and they also suggested the same thing as you.

Told them off the tee on a par 3, callaway outer layer shreads. approach shot on a pitching wedge, bridgestone outelayer shreads. I take it as bad luck in buying defective golf balls.

If I am hitting well, the Srixon soft feel last me abotu 6-8 holes before very slight scuff marks start to show. I am having a bad day, no scuff marks at all.

got ppl play new balls but old wedges or irons? no point playing the softest newest ball if ur wedge grooves are gone, or even worn. Better spend the $$ on a new wedge rather than $65 balls

Old irons... perhaps. But old wedges aren't necessarily bad. I think what you're referring to are clubs which grooves have worn off? I would agree that if your grooves are gone, then using an old or new ball makes little difference.

some balls (e.g. Cally HX Bite, Cally Tour iS, ProV1, TM TP Red) are marketed as having soft outer layer. they just scuff easier than other balls, especially if you have pretty fast swing speed, and hit them with a good crisp contact, or if you use a wedge with sharp groove edges, pre 2010 USGA groove rule (e.g. Nike VR 09, Fourteen V4, Cally X-Forged, SM2s)

Noodle+ outer layer is pretty durable, of coz they dun spin as much on wedge shots

I played with used Pro V1s and i don't get rid of my balls but let the balls decides for itself. When they have enough of me, they either ttried a new profession like scuba diving or plays hide and seek with me in the bushes. I remember once there was a ball which just kept going and going and going despite it got scuffed so much. It hates the water and when it flew into the bushes or trees, it always goes right through them. It makes sure I can find it. In the end, I retired it at the range finally.

No kidding. All my balls just hate me I guess. They either:
- Head for a drink and never returned
- Dived straight past the OB marker, into the dank recesses of the forest
- Flew a good 280 yards, landing on the tarmac road, bouncing high up and bounded into a home like a lunatic

I lose about an average of 3 balls per round, my record was losing 14 balls in a single bad afternoon (the last one survived the 18th hole).

I have some warbird, gamer v2 and burner tour balls at home which I use to practise putting ... I find that burner tour and gamer has a softer feel when it comes to putting whereas warbird has this clicky sound and is harder ...

Gamer V2 is a very good and cheap ball... but hor, very easy to scuff the cover. Just a few wedges, you can start picking out the white stuff from the ball. Used to be my fav ball when panwest got promo on it.

Anyone has reviews on Srixon AD333 or Srixon Softfeel? I tried a sleeve of AD333 last weekend and felt not bad with it. Doesn't scuff that fast as well.

I have used both in my recent games. Softfeel is nice and soft with decent distance but outer cover scuffs easily. IMHO, I prefer AD333 as they last much longer compared to Softfeel.

I feel sad for your ball bro. Ha! Ha! It's not ready for retirement and a real commando despite the furious battle on the field. Laughing Beer
