PostSubject: Using of hips   Wed Mar 07, 2012 12:21 am

Hi, been making tweaks to my swing here and there and finally its stable. One thing i think im unable to do is harness the potential of the hips as seen from my distances. 7i im getting 120-130m without carry roll, my driver gives me about 170-200m again without carry roll. Any tips on how to make full use of the hips?

Much appreciated.

You mean total distance is 120-130m?

130-150 total distance is quite normal.
If you want hip turn, watch good youngsters play.
They got very natural and beautiful hip turn.

Hi joshyo, suggest you go get a coach. Don't spoil your swing by see and do, very damaging.

Just my 2 cents.

Very Happy

Put ball on tee. Take out 7i. Then picked up ball and put in pocket. Walked to 130m with 7i in hand. Take out ball from pocket. Dropped it at the 130m mark. 130m without carry?? scratch
Do you mean carry without roll bro Joshyo?

haha. Poor josh.

Transfering my weight from the back leg to the leading leg helps me to get 130-140 carry for my 7i.

If I dont do that, the max I get is 120m carry.

this notion of Hips movement is not something that you can do easily on your own. My suggestion is to go to a swing coach to review your swing and then incorporate the hips if the coach is happy with your swing. My experience is that a lot of time, the swing itself need to be corrected first.

To use a hip is really difficult .. already so use to use the arm / shoulder to create a swing.

uhm, using the hips....
uhmmmm.....

I would suggest you not to try it.
specially if you are not young anymore.

Its not Good per se.
why?

I have a few friends who used to do that
but developed some hip problem in the latter part.

To gain distance.

You either changed shaft or
do a faster Down swing

Hi Joshyo, I'm one of the golf professionals at NSRCC. Firstly I would like to say that initiating the downswing with your hips is what the top golf professionals do on the PGA Tour and that is the reason why Rory McIlroy hits it so much further than the average players....at NSRCC we have the Golf Biodynamics to help identify your hip rotation in relation to your shoulders and arms and to analyze on ways to get your swing to be more efficient.....I believe that every golfer has their own style of swinging the club....if you are interested in improving on your distance, I would suggest you drop by to have a session with me so that I can analyze your swing better....I would not want to give u inappropriate suggestions which may disrupt your swing sequence.....Hope that I can help u out buddy! Smile

Hi Ahnah, the Golf Biodynamics is more for players with a consistent swing, however it would help identify the places for improvements....For a beginner, I would recommend having a coach to help you with the basic fundamentals and guide you along as your swing progresses.....

PS: having poor habits especially during the start of your golfing experience can result in huge compromises in the swing that can be hard to change....

Hey Joshyo, I do go to Kranji at times but due to the lack of a proper driving range facility, I am based at Changi most of the time....

Hope that helps!
Cheers!

haha 24 is young.

The people who I mentioned were in their 40s.

Late golfing students and some of the Pros would teach that....
using hip turn to achieve distance.

Junior Golfers do that becoz they are flexible.

I do agree to this...

its best you let a golf coach see how you should used your hips.

Hey HyBriD,

thanks for the comment! To me as a coach I believe that every individual is different in terms of their physical stature (very much like how different people have their own fingerprints)...Therefore what a coach should do, is to help identify the strong parts of their swing and improve on that....

For example, you cant really ask a 60+ year old to try to get body coil as compared to a 10 year old junior!! the limitations are there and most likely you would see 20-40% more body coil with the junior coz he is much more flexible!

These would be my opinion on the golf swing....
Hope this helps!

Cheers guys!
