Hi Guys, my first post here and I thought you all might be interested in this since Techospaz made mention of SunMountain. Check out the H2NO, waterproof is their claim, snazzy colours too. Link is attached with a writer's review to answer all your questions.

Hmmm... Either I can't tag images in the post or I don't know how. Guess next best thing is to post the link to the images. Bet you'll say "whoa!" when you see the bag.

https://www.golfcircuit.com/Sun-Mountain-H2no-Stand-Bag/__2197.html

By the way, I am using a TM stand bag and it's served me well. It's the '08 Japan tour edition. Jap qc much better. Stands pretty well even without activating the legs. The base is more triangular then round so it doesn't tip over as easy on the side. Best thing is the bag cover is not the thin cheap afterthought as with most bags. It's double layered and water resistant if not waterproof. Funnily enough, stock seems to have come back on the market for whatever reason and at a steal, around $200, down from the original $400 plus. Smart looking bag, comes in black or white, both with red accents.

Unless you walk and carry your bag a lot; most of the Sun Mountain carry bags you have to place somewhat sideways when riding a cart, cos the legs like to deploy out...

Having said that, I'm still considering the SM Four 5. Will go take a look this weekend...

Ask for Columbus Day sale offers! I'm headin out now to see if there's any.

I think the outlets have some offers though.

BTW, I got myself a Titleist Den Caddy online. A good place for the shag balls:

I usually don't like Nike Golf stuff; but this weekend, when I went to look at golf bags; The Nike Sasquatch Tour Stand Bag really stood out.. hahaha.
Construction and features/pockets looked good, size was somewhere in between a small carry and a large cart, just about right for what I was looking for.
Better than the Ogios and Sun Mountains. I think the SunMountain four 5 is a great bag for walking (very light and comfortable). But in Singapore, I don't really walk, most of the time ride the cart, even when walk will usually pull trolley.

The Sun Mountain C130 Cart bag is nice and roomy, but I think a bit too big for my car and a bit cumbersome to lug around, Ogio had a couple of decent bags too. TM, Titleist, nothing reallly nice. For a cheap cart/carry bag, there was a Burton Pulse which looked pretty decent for it's price. Looks like I'll most probably end up getting the Nike.

I didn't realise it but we have the same bag, in fact, I have both the black and white versions. Both have no rust.... yet. But so far seems ok. And yes it is made in china. I have seen the US version of this bag and the quality isn't quite as good. As for the rings, I guess that's the easiest place to cut costs and cheat a little. Don't think you got a lemon, probably same across the board. But I have had other bags and the rings as well as the metallic buttons for fastening the hood are usually the first to rust. Good luck with your next bag, although I'm not sure how you're gonna make sure the rings aren't going to rust too. Unless of course you wipe the metal bits with WD 40 every so often.

By the way, do you have the name, contact and address of the golf bag repair shop. Might come in handy one day. Thanks.

About had enough of Taylormade products! Not sure if any GRians have the same sentiments?

Their QC for their products SUCKS, unless I'm always the unlucky one to gotten those defective ones.

My latest encounter was my TM Tour Stand Bag (Model CB151L), the metal rings for the sling was rusting like SH^%! The materials used are really really lousy - Made in China. I had to revert to my Nickent bag (more than 4 yrs and no visible rust on the rings. My wife's Callaway abt the same time as the TM also shows no visible rusting!

Worst was I feedback via the websites (US, Sinagpore, International sites) and ZERO response!!!

My past experience was messed up swing weights for my R7XD clubs!
And the 7 iron head dislodged from the shaft luckily not fully on the R7 irons!

BOYCOTT TM TILL THEY IMPROVE THEIR QUALITY!!!!! ARGHHHH..............

PS: Realised a revelation that the tour players irons are crafted by master club makers using TM name and nothing close to the mass produced products from China!!!! So dun be conned by the tour players endorsements!

Dear peace2903,

I sense your frustration. However, the truth of the matter is 90% of golf products are Made In China. Not all MIC products are bad, really. As a matter of fact I think when it comes to golf bags, 99% are MIC. I have been fortunate enough to travel to Japan and the US often enough to do a lot of golf shopping. In Japan, perhaps the only gof bags you can find that Made in Japan are the Mizuno Noshohampu (sp) and the boston bags or gear bags. Even the gear bags, for Made in Japan ones, only a few companies offer them and they are at a premium.

I am not a fan of TM products because I think marketing supersedes quality in much of what they do, especially in accesories. The Japanese market ones are better quality because they know the Japanese consumer will be willking to pay more. But, it is still MIC. This is true for almost all JDM products.

I have found a few ways to fix the splitting leg problem. Many of us live in pretty decent homes so we have smooth flooring, this makes the legs slip.

1. Deploy the stand with nothing in the bag. Then get a canvas strap or stout cloth about 3/4" to an inch thick. Wrap one end around the leg, and if you can, stitch it in pace with strong thread or fishing line. Stitch the other end in place to the actual wire springs or a sturdier anchor point, keeping the cloth taut. That way, the legs will never over-deploy.

2. If the original rubber stoppers are crap, go to a DIY or rubber products store like swees engineering at Towner road or King Soon at Kitchener. get those cheap rubber bumpers we use for table legs. they come in small sizes. It should cost 50 cents a piece. Epoxy or super glue it in place.

3. If you still hate those rubber bumpers, you can find a supplier like Misumi who'll sell rubber stoppers in Nitrile, Silicon and other materials. Bear in mind these will wear faster and will need some basic tooling of the stands. You'll need a vernier to measure the Inner Diameter and Outside Diameter.

4. Finally, you can change out the rings for SUS 304 or Stainless ones. They are available. Call a stainless steel supplier. Or go to a metal working shop. They'll make them for you if they have the maetrial. You want it to be even more rust proof? Use SUS316L.

I know you must be thinking, why must I do all this when I paid good money for a bag? Well, I don't think TM is gonna do much so rather than waste $ completely, make the best of it. Maybe you'll get some form of satisfaction from the DIY job.

I hate to break it to you, but even Titleist, and Sun Mountain (basically the same) are MIC. Even Ping, the bastion of collegiate bags (in the Hoofer and L8) have shifted production of their bags to China. They do not own plants. They get ppl to make it for them. I have seen the plants. Responsible plant owners do very stringent QC and inventory control. It's the same with clubs.

I hope this helps. FWIW, I think the Nike Sasquatch Tour is the best stand bag there is today.

Awesome reply Ditt or Dan.

Is it out of just pure interest that you have such indepth knowledge of where to get wat type of stopper and steel rings? Or is it through the nature of your work? Architect, engineer, or golf related, maybe even golf bag related?

Just curious as to how you're so knowledgeable about each of the different areas you've mentioned in your reply.

By the way, I was thinking you were a girl, then going further down your reply, I thought no way. No girl is this technical in so many different areas, lol. No disrespect meant to any of the ladies here, it's just how we're wired differently.

but great reply! i'll recommend my friend with the splitting legs to go grab some 3M rubber stoppers. haha and i think i have a tube of epoxy somewhere..

Or you can apply some liquid silicon or Shoe Goo to the stopper ends. That's what I did and it helped some. But when dirt started collecting in the compound, some slippage ocurred. Now I just make sure it's either rough ground when I spread my legs, or make sure one of my legs is leaning against a wall when I open up. Really smooth tiles, Just stand it straight up against the corner of a wall so the bag won't fall.

Hahaha... did I really say spread my legs????

Hi Guys,

Glad to be of assistance. I have worked in engineering for quite a bit now and am actually a bit of a DIY kinda person. I see lots of industrial products that are built stronger and lighter than consumer products and I'm always thinking, hmm... how can I use this for golf? Haha.

Unfortunately, I don't swing quite as well as the person in my avatar. She's plays to an 8.8 and I am having a pretty hard time finding new irons for her. I'll be sure to tell her folks here are liking her swing/ follow through.

Regards
Dan

Her surname must be Richards, related to Reed Richards of the Fantastic Four!

Very very nice extension on the follow through, unique to her that's for sure. Be nice to see that swing in real life.

I used to buy Plastic Man, but too cartoony. Elongated Man was part of the early JLA. I was a DC fan too. But Marvel overtook the Universe in the end.
