If....and I say if....you happen to in a flt with a slow playing golfer (aka The Na Guy)....how to you 'encourage' him/her to play faster.

My suggestions:

#1. Don worry...we don bet big..

#2 It really makes no diff.....

#3 You can reach meh ???

#4 Do you mind if I hit first since I am 50m ahead of yours?

The above are those dished out to me previously

My suggestions:

#1. Don worry...we don bet big.. that's right, you can't afford losing everything to me

#2 It really makes no diff..... that's right, I still get in the hole in fewer than you

#3 You can reach meh ??? No, but I get in the hole in fewer than you

#4 Do you mind if I hit first since I am 50m ahead of yours? Go ahead, I'll shout "ball" in your back swing if the ball goes your way.. bounce

how about this...

"Yo bro, i have to be straight up with you. We were just waiting for you to hit your ball. I noticed you took quite some time to hit that shot on the 18th tee, if I counted correctly you took 10 practice swings, you backed off, check your aim few times, then waggle 3-4 times, took one more practice swing, then shanked the shot. It took another 3 mins for you to hit that provisional ball. You did that routine every shot and I mean every shot. If you're one on or two on every green it's ok. but you didnt, far from it. In addition, you were always the first to hit. As a result, we were quite behind on our pace and the flight behind is waiting for us at every green. That's why the Marshall came up to us at the turn. It's also impacting the three of us bro as all the waiting kind of took us out of our momentum. I totally understand we all need to keep a routine, but we try to keep the routine short, maybe you can reduce your practice swings just a bit, and try to pick your targets and shots while you're waiting for your turn. I'm sure standing over a ball for 3 mins is just gonna give you more tension and negative thoughts. Don't worry so much about all this swing thoughts you read from the forum la, release this way la, backswing that way la...just hit hard and look up! hahaha...Seriously I really think it would help a lot and we will all enjoy our game a lot more. Hope you take this the right way bro, we mean no disrespect. Brudders need to be straight up with each other right? Beer on me hor!"

at courses like nsrcc and mbgc..don't really need to encourage much. you will have escorts at every hole if your flight is getting abit slow to nudge you along Very Happy

Slow play for the average weekend hack is a pain I do agree. But Kevin Na was leading a tournament and Played within the time frame given to him by the PGA . What the hecklers did and even presenters on tv Said about him was simply bias And an absoloute unfair play to make him rush and choke on the final day. They even mentioned a couple of times about "crowd faves" being Matt and to win. Pretty obvious why they made a hoo has about his slow play

ummm ... anyone slower than me????

Just joking guys ... that is actually the reason I bring cigarettes and beer and a smartphone ... if I do get paired up with someone who takes a bit more time, I chill, have a smoke, have a drink and play games on my phone.

Sometimes I might choose to take a few irons, my wedge and my putter and then walk the hole. Give him the buggy and enjoy the space and the peace walking by myself

Some might classify my approach as defeatist, but I prefer to think of it as while I might or might not be able to affect the behavior of the other person, I can definitely control my own reaction to it ...

p.s. of course this whole psuedo zen thing completely depends on a steady supply of supplements as mentioned above ... if not ... then .... HULK SMASH!!!!

Actually I don't mind slow, just be show a bit more urgency when your turn to play is next, also please be more cautious of the situation around and lastly know some basic rules lah. I met before player, who is slow is one thing, he top the ball on the 1st hole but the ball is now in play and yet he wanna declared mullingan as if all there's no other flights behind. To be that's a big no no...ok if no one waiting, i don't mind, but there's a long queue behind. Pls hurry up.

Does anyone have polite ways to bring the message across??? Pls share leh...

I'm prefectly fine with players having a bad day on course - topping, shanking, shooting into water / OB,.. BUT not those PGA wannabes who take 3mins to setup for every shots and then duff or top or shank...Worst, after the bad shot, do some 'POST' practise swing...

KNS...Buay Pai Seh kind... then the rest of us got to rush through our shots to compensate for the loss time...

I think the player must know how to deal with it him/herself. If your flight mates tell u, it'll start ruinning your day and your flight mate will be affected too. Another thing to said is I think a lot of people watch too much PGA, thinking par 4 sure 2 on.....sometimes the distance are so long that from the tee shot, you'll know he/she will not get it on in 2, then u wait until the flight in front clear the green then he/she take the shot....good ok...sometimes top/shank somemore....this really waste time.

To me i would qualify those that takes more than 40 seconds to take a shot.... Then no sense of planning the shot i.e. taking the right irons when you go searching the ball then playing the shot.

There were once a slow player told me, "front flight, back flight and our flight, we all paid same amount of green fee what?, why must we speed up? Enjoy ourselves and let them (back flight) wait la...". Honestly, I've heard this more than once from different play-mate and probably the most sickening thing I've ever heard on course. My mind was thinking "ya right, the back flight paid the same amount of green fee to suffer having you in front...".

This is like typical singaporean attitude..pay full amount so even beginner with PC or nothing also must play blue tee. This causes slow golf as well.

as long as it's within the pace dictated by the golf course it should be fair play IMO.

if they are slow, just tell him/her he is slow and need to speed up. I normally just tell them to pick up the ball and go, but all my khakis are long time friend and we are all laughing happy happy.. we've been through all the phases (beginner, season beginner, season screw up golfer etc), so it's usually well taken.
