| Hi All,
Just wanted to see if any out there have played in Dubai and have any recommendations for 1 round while I am there for a couple of days during a stopover to the US in September?
I have read that the Montgomerie course and the Emirates are both nice. We are staying at Atlantis and I would prefer not to travel that far to play.
Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

| Dubai is like the disneyland of golf courses ... So many to chose from ... Both the montgomerie and the emirates golf club are closeby to the atlantis (<15 mins by cab) Montgomerie is a very popular links style course ... And the emirates golf club - majlis course is where all the history is (dubai desert classic) ... You cant go wrong with either!!! The emirates golf club - faldo is flood lit ... September is still a very hot month ... get ready to be roasted! Though you probably wont sweat as much as you do here ... |

| Creek is beautiful and Jumeirah, humbling. All short drive from Atlantis. While at Atlantis, you must try Nobu - get the cod and finish with the cheesecake. |

| Thanks for the info so far. In looking at the map I am thinking the Montgomerie or Els seem like good choices right now. Also considering the Emirates one as it is close.

| Hi
Monty is not exactly a links course. The only true links course in UAE is the Yas Links in Abu Dhabi.
Nevertheless, Monty and Emirates are both beautiful. From the Atlantis, Monty and Emirates would both be nearer, 15km.
The other considerations should be Jumeirah Golf Course (finale of the European tour), Al Badia festival city (my favourite course in Dubai), the Els, Creek the list goes on. These would be slightly further 30km away but not a big consideration since taxis/rental cars are everywhere.
There are currently 9 courses in Dubai to choose from.
I have posted a couple of reviews with pics in the "overseas game" thread. You can check those out!
Dun worry about the 45C heat and 60% humidity now. We still golf here on a weekly basis.
Dix, Ghoonk and I are residents so if you need playing partners let us know!

Nope, jumeirah is one of the slightly further ones from Atlantis. |

| Hi Begbie Hotels proximity actually is not that big a concern, since I suppose you would either be cabbing or renting a car (you shld rent a car if you havent been here by the way, very cheap and shiok, especially when you go to the gas station. And you can forget abt the COE woes back home whilst you drive your 90SGD per day A6 cruising Sheikh Zayed Road). I normally stay either at the Al Barsha area (near Mall of Emirates) or in Deira. You can check out: 1) Arabian Raunches stay and play deal 2) Al Badia Golf Club (Intercontinental) - superb rooms and incredible changing room. Yes changing rooms, equipped with Sauna, Steam room, jacuzzi. No extra charge. The last time I was there after the game, I reckoned I stayed for 1.5 hrs in the changing room... 3) Festival City Intercon/Crowne Plaza - has superb rooms and next to Dubai Creek Golf Club. 4) If you fancy a fancy stay, I believe Atlantis has stay and play package too. For 2 night stay, i reckon you can play at least 3 games. I did 3 courses - Montgomerie, Al Badia and Creek in 36 hours in summer. Leave some time for shopping - the Dubai Sales has started! Not much golfing stuff to buy if you are about to ask me. Dubai Mall has the most equipped merchandise store (Golf House) in this region. Unfortunately, whilst you are here and as much as I would like to play host, I would be swapping places with you - at Phuket during the period of games in Laguna and Blue Canyon. There are a dozen courses in Dubai, Sharjah and the Northern Emirates and you would be spoilt for choice playing some world class, incredibly well manicured courses, if you havent already. I have played in every one of them so I can give some comments. You can check out some of my post in "overseas games" for references. Enjoy yourself and let me know how else I can help. |
