Would love to hear from the experts.

I am hitting my driver really well with the factory installed shaft. Just in case I break it, will the same exact replacement be as good?

I understand that stock shafts do not go thru stringent quality controls as compared to aftermarket ones.

Only if the club is fake. Very slim chance of breaking a shaft with a golf swing. Unless you reAlly smash it onto the ground in which Case the shaft breaking is the last of your worries

Thanks Pocketace,
That is the reason why I am asking if the shafts will have identical performance. If it does, that will be good news.

Are there any way to check the cpm and different stiffness of the different parts of my shaft and then compare with those available there, without pulling out the cog?

There will be variances in the stock shaft offerings. There is quality control at most of the major OEM's, but I have seen firsthand several shafts that are marked one way and then test to a different flex (either too stiff or too soft) or cpm.

I have also found that some of the stock offerings are quite good and play just as good if not better than any aftermarket shaft, but that tends to be a little rare. Most of the money is put into the club head and the stock shaft (unless it is a real deal aftermarket offering that some offer today) can be more of an afterthought.

Shafts are important and knowing what works for you and fits your swing is important as well (when you reach certain levels it becomes more important).

I would think knowing what the cpm, flex, length, flex point (high, low, or mid), and swing weight of the club you like now would be important in the case of breakage. Then you could in theory get a shaft that was pretty close to the original one you have now.

Eric might be able to elaborate a bit more on this.

Thanks DRGjr72.

That was my thoughts exactly. Problem is, to get exact numbers, it would mean that the cog of my shaft needs to be taken out before testing. That way, it will be more accurate. The numbers can then be kept for future reference. If the cog is not removed, I feel that it will affect the results of the tests.

my past experience of installing used shafts was not too good. I feel that the heating process to remove the cog from the shaft will make the shaft brittle and it will be more prone to breakage. I am apprehensive about breaking this one.

As for the same stock shaft, you have just reinforced my thinking that one shaft differs from another. Guess I was lucky that the one that I have fitted my swing to a tee.

Whenever my friends looked at my setup, they are always commenting how surprised they are that it is a regular flexed shaft. However, I personally know that the letter on the shaft does not matter. It is the results that matter most !

The last time I went fit a fitting with DGman, he turned me away as the swing was still not stable enough to benefit from a shaft change. wonder if it is the same case now. Guess have to go and find out.

Thanks again, DRGjr72!
