sub 50? that is all like less than half swing...

if u want the mechanical way of play, all i can think of is to go for 60 or more degree of wedges for such play...

to me, end of the day is feel. stand next to the ball, a couple of practice swings and imagine the ball flight as you practice each swing...

then again, duffy will say do not listen to me. (the only thing we both can agree on.)

Next time watch how the pro do the recovery.
Ayway, they hardly have these problems.
Because they are very "Choon" on their GIR.

I think he where they aim at the greens. I dont think they aim at the pin at every hole. So they tend to leave themself with an easier recovery. But they hit ball everyday and off the turf while we can only find time to range and even when range, also off mat. Enjoying the game for people like us is more important imo.

I'm pretty new but what I try to do is to adjust my standing position relative to the ball. The further back the ball is, the shorter it goes. Its just something I do and I'm also not sure if its the right thing to do...

I agree with PS suggestion, this works for me too.... my PW is 48, wedge play 52,56,64

TigaWood..i cannot offer tips on techniques but I can offer suggestions on equipment Laughing

If you're having gaps on the short distances and you're not a "seve" type of player who use one wedge for varying distances, then maybe can consider making your WITB less crowded at the top and add a wedge

e.g. 3H (20 deg) and 4i (22-23 deg) maybe too close together. Maybe can replace with a 22 deg hybrid. 5iron usually 26-27 deg.

if your PW is 46, then play 50 55 60 wedges
if your PW is 48, then play 52 56 60

how many times you need to or can be precise from 170m? how many times you need to or can be precise on 50m shots?

I feel that this is a very common problem faced by many people.

And if we take a page out of the book , if you like to base on feel , then you gotta start visualizing. like how garcia used to take 20 looks at the pin or the fairway before he hits just dont do 20 probably like 3-5 . and during your pre shot routine try swinging the speed and strength you would gauge to reach .

hope it helps.

I use to have a fix swing (pre setback amt of back swing) and change the club accordingly for the various distance. e.g. SW can go 10m, AW wll go 15m etc...

After taking lessons, my coach ask me to feel the distance with the same club for various distance. I am doing this practice at the range now..SW go for 10m, 15m, 30m etc....AW or PW or 9i go for 10m, 15m, 30m etc....

Yah, choking down does help. Thanks for the tips.

I like to camp the chipping greens with just my 56 and pw. Chip n roll to different distances. When I get my 60 then I'll camp w my wedge set Very Happy sometimes 7 iron chipping too.

Maybe u shld have a go to wedge for super short distances below 20 and up to 50 I use my 56* for that but if I get a 60 it will be just so I can choose chip n roll or chip n stop. (: I think all that practice for feel really helps esp on chipping greens. Just 30-60 mins twice a month does it.

First, you gotta know the gap in between the wedges you carry and how far can you hit each of the wedges you have with a full swing as a start. Knowing your distance with each is very important as it then determine how far you can get with a three quarter, then half, then a quarter. All these are assuming that you swing each wedge with consistent rhythm from one to another to produce consistent results. Of course, you gotta practice first in order to get all the different distances.

Second part is knowing what you can and what you cant do with each. There are times when you are just not comfortable executing certain shots, so why bother. It means you are not yet ready to put that shot into use until you master it. So, go to your other options. There are many other types of shot that you can rely on when the situation calls for it. Again, it comes down to practice to familiarize yourself with your capabilities with each wedge and your limitations.

Many amateurs often say that "oh i need to work on my wedges oh i need to practice my approach". And yet when they step on the range, heres what usually happen. 90% of the time spent on long mid-long irons, then woods then driver. The other 10% spent on figuring out whats wrong with their swing when its already finely executed. So this leads to the final point, which is discipline. If you know you need to work on your wedges, then why not leave the rest of the clubs at home just for a session and just bring along your wedges.

If all else fails, its time you seek your nearest or most trusted PGA pro to really help you out "LIVE".

Happy golfing!
