interestingly, i think the burger at morton's is really good and gives that 'ahhh' satisfaction. in fact i'm salivating thinking about it now..

and btw it is nowhere near as pricey as their steaks..

well, i think i eat more burgers here than anyone else... since i doubt anyone else on this forum has finished an in-n-out 8 by 8 in 10 mins flat...

and i'd swear by in-n-out in the states,

i can't take jon seriously when it comes to food since he is willing to eat the shit they serve at kranji so i'll just ignore his comments regarding mcd...

i do however agree with TS that the worry would be the base ingredients as a tomato from good ol' usa aint the same as that shit that kinda looks like a half eaten heart from malaysia...

and lets face it, the shitty cows form aus and nz dont taste the same as usda grade beef...

so, i'm not exactly having high hopes abt this particular in-n-out... although, i do know for a fact (since my buddy is doing it) that in-n-out is opening in manila and they will be importing the beef and produce from the US...

I recently checked out Masa Steak & Hamburger opp. UE Square, off Mohd Sultan. Fanstastic burgers but slightly pricey - less than Mortons but slightly more than Relish. Its a Japanese pub, serving wagyu steaks & fries primarily, burgers are very good too.

hmm ok Masa at Mohd Sultan. Will try next time!

as to making our own burger: i tried many times (with a weber gril, charcoal) but the taste just not there...hard to get the mince beef right, get the buns right, the cheese, the grilled onions, pickles, and the sauce (all we can get ourselves is mayo, mustard, ketchup).

It's not like grilling steak where having a good meat is 90% the battle.

PS Sham, tried the Bistecca Tuscan at Mohd Sultan? Excellent T-Bone.

Frankly, any burger location which serves caramelized onions for my burger and honey mustard on the side will do it for me Smile

bro PS, go to meidiya supermarket and ask them to ground the USDA rib eye steaks, cost a bit more but that should give you the ideal 75-25 lean to fat ratio that is generally what the best burger joins use...

cheese is simply american cheese and you need a flat grill for the buns, meat and cheese the thing is cannot get is the secret sauce.... i'm still testing in my spare time... will update you if i'm successful

and no, i've not tried many of the restaurants ard the MS area...

we shld plan a dinner gathering there too!

In-N-Out burgers were a twice-weekly affair when I was in CA. If u think the fries are not great Ms Lee, thats cause you don't know how to order! I always have my fries well done and they will fry it till its almost potato chip-like for you. Ask for a couple of packets of their secret sauce for dipping at no extra charge.

Nevertheless, it is 1 of many great burger chains in the US and somehow, the same taste cannot be replicated here.

I'm no burger connoisseur like most people here but to be honest, I haven't had a decent burger in Sg after tasting heaven over and over again in the US.

Worst, they cost twice to 4 times the price of what a great burger should cost in US.

The closest to a decent one is i think what PS mentioned: the Da Paolo bistro thingy at Cluny Court but I think they have moved. Still, it will not achieve perfection due to the sub-standard OZ beef we import like what Sham mentioned.

What makes a burger great is not what fandangled atas crap you try to lace it with like truffle cream or whatever expensive sh!t it is made out of.

No. All you need is fresh ingredients - Lettuce, Tomato, Onions, Pickles. Fresh soft buns. A great patty cooked to perfection in butter and coated with cheese and you will have a winner.

Here are some of the best I have tasted in US. Presenting them in their different ways but still delicious in their own unique self:

No need to hunt high and low if you need a burger fix. Any Ruby's Diner will serve a decent jalapeno burger.

If you are in San Diego, a run down hippie-biker-surfer joint along Ocean Beach by the name of Hodad's will get you going. This monster burger is a mean machine alrite.

In Atlanta GA, do not pass over Varsity with their chilli burger and slaw dogs. Complete it with oily crispy onion rings and wash it down with what else? Coke as that is where it was born. All for the princely sum of $7.50

Best of the best burgers are still from NYC. 2 special mentions:

Shake Shack. I know they have started franchising out in places like Miami and even Dubai but they still serve a damn fine burger. Get a lowdown of their Shack Stack. The thick upper patty is a deep fried portobello mushroom that oozes a ton of juice as you bite into it.

If mushrooms ain't your kinda topping, the double Shackburger will def agree with you

Again, you have to pair it with their milkshakes...the quintessential drink for this All-American meal

Finally, the best in NYC has gotta be this hole-in-the-wall kinda place tucked inside a ritzy hotel.

No frills name. Its just called 'Burger Joint' inside a Le Parke Meridien Hotel. 2hr Queues are standard.

Do not be deceived by its simplicity. Its almost a letdown in its appearance...until you bite into 1.

It is honestly the best I have tasted. I don't need no caviar truffle cream to enhance it.

I need a burger now.

In & Out is definitely a MUST when you are in the USA. However, I seriously doubt they will be able to replicate that here in Singapore. But at times, beggars can't be choosers.

For a good burger fix, I normally head out to JB. There a restaurant in Taman Pelangi known as Food Republique. The burger there is "out of this world". The price ranges from RM16 to RM19 but it's real good value for money considering the portion and taste of the burger. So, if you are in JB for a round of golf, check this place out!

Oh Sham please NZ meat craps all over the fatty ridden steroid injected USA Stuff, but as Rex said the good stuff is not imported here, always 2nd 3rd Grade quality.

The best burger I have had in Singapore was at SICC, so good made me cry, Crying or Very sad

Carls etc are ok but a poor poor substitute..... Beer

Ramly burger for the grease and ease, yes. But you want a good burger, there are other choices.
