maybe i'm not up to speed...you mean torque of the shaft? is low torque shaft becoming cheaper now?

fitters use torque as one of the factors during shaft fitting for a while already.

I use lower torque shaft before, higher torque shaft now...same results. both can go straight, both can go awry Laughing

Bro pushslice
What we been tried are low torque and higer torque in different bent profiles / flex / weight. The new shaft have same exactly bent profiles / flex and weight but just different tourques. It's suppose to enhance feel area, It is something new ...at least for me Very Happy
Oh...what i meant cheaper prices are for different trend issue to come.bounce Smile

I have the VTS silver (medium torque) in my hybrid.
Feels quite good.

Gg to try a VTS red( low torque) shld feel softer.
Maybe will post a review in comparison later Smile

maslie... ok. It is established that you are hokkien as well.

The question now is what is the purpose of this thread? Torque is the new trend now? What do you mean? The older shafts do not have torque?

Hi DLWL, please do share us your experience with different torques, with low one are they give lesser spin and more roll?

Good thing about these new shafts,IMO... (in general) while most of us looking for stiffer tip to kill spin, they were available only in low below 3.3 numbers and felt so boardy.
Is this the answer for most of us??

now i'm curious too...

whats this about torque?

i mean, all shafts have torque and i'm sure that the numbers are pretty mixed across the board in terms of whats for sale... so what abt this?

is this about a new shaft? with lower or higher torque?

I reffer "new trend" as: lately many shaft companies coming up with exploring deeper area in torques.
My apologize if the title made many fellows confuse.

Yes it is about new shaft with higher and lower torques in same shaft-same flex-same weight.

My intention on this tread is just to discuss if this new deeper explore area could be usefull for most of us?
Thanks.

oh... really? tht is interesting

so now shaft companies are essentially making more models so as to cater not only to flex and weight but also torque...

that is fantastic...

cos i like heavy shafts with low torque but not too stiff...

but wouldn't torque be a reflection of stiffness? i mean, can i get a low torgue shaft that is regular flex?

Hi Shamusan
From what I read torque is not associate with stiffness, the bent profiles/flex is what to count for physicall stiffness. The torque does give the feel of the stiffness when we swing.
I think what are available for the new shafts is the other way around, now we can get stiff flex in higher torque but it doesn't feel stiff when we swing.
Mostly people are looking lower trajectory and low spin to gain distances, to be able to do that we need stiffer tip section on the shaft and now we can stiff flex but feel swinging like in regular flex.

Hope some expert could enlight us, as I started this topic with interest to learn more Smile

maslie... i assume you do know the meaning of torque.

For the benefit of others who do not know; Torque refers to a shaft's resistance to twisting during a golf swing. A higher torque rating means the shaft twists more and too much torque can lead to the head turning.

Based on traditional construction of shafts, the stiffer the shaft, the less cross rotation it is able to achieve and thus the lower torque it will have.

So in my opinion, torque is associated with stiffness and it is somewhat a by-product of trying to achieve the primary objective when constructing a shaft; stiffness.

From what I know, all the market has is softer shafts with higher torque and stiffer shafts with lesser torque.

I would also be very interested to find a shaft that offers both ends of the spectrum at the same time. highly impossible. although a close friend of mine did highlight to me a certain 'nunchuck' shaft but i have been too lazy to go and research more about it.

Personally, I have always been looking for stiff shafts at 70grams with torque as low as 2.3. But the torque for 70g stiff shafts is about 2.8 to 3.2 degrees usually. I have been searching actively for shafts with lower torque until my idol found a PX 6B7 and I found the Proto K from BigFish. These 2 shafts work perfect for me although the specs weren't what I was looking for exactly. I have stopped searching since.

I did a quick search on the web for these shafts that you claim offer higher and lower torque with same bend profiles. I have not been able to find anything. perhaps you can point some sites for us to review?

MC, your swing will multiply the torque rating of the shaft by 2 times. So it doesnt matter.

Indeed shaft companies now start filling in the "blanks area". For 2.5 / R-S-X / 70's you may find for the legend fujikura 757 and another coming in is phenom NL. cheersss
