I'd rather Singapore table tennis team win bronze and get their $250K... I feel they also work hard to reach to that level and ought to be rewarded...

Not that I am supporting them, but they are Singaporeans already with Pink IC. Our ancestors were also from there though times were tougher back then.

Come to think of it, our current team were actually not shortlisted by China and Singapore took the opportunity to bring them in and polish them further. (Correct not har!) We also bring in their coach to train them. Through hard work, they are where they are right now.

So chin chai chin chai lah! Who asked our education system to be so "kia su" that children nowadays concentrate more on studies than sports.

250K for 4 years of hardwork is abt a 5k/mth salary.

And they MAY or MAY NOT get it depending on performance.

honestly for the amount of effort and training. its not dat spactacular.

$ aside, we should support our country irregardless.

P.S, Poland also has a PRC import in their Team. I wonder if their country men make as much noise as our little island about it.

These players already localized, some may even live in HDB flats (I know Flying Dutchman does). I dont see any difference between us(Spore born Singaporean) and them.

I think it is much more than 250k. God knows how much we have spent to "buy" them over and to maintain them.

If we wait for true blue Singapore to bring medal back, I am afraid we have to continue waiting from 1960 when our Mr. Tan Howe Liang won the Silver medal in weightlifting in Rome. He was also a native from Shantou, Gouangdong, China.

We should not be bias against our Table Tennis Team being from China. All our parents and ancestors were also in one way or another from China. What does that make us if we call them foreign imports. We are descendants of foreign imports.

We are unable to produce a local Olympian purely because of our Kiasu education system where paper chase is the all important matter over sports.

Give them a chance to set roots here. If they chose to return then let it be. Look at our ex-national table tennis player Jing Jun Hong, did she return to China. No she did not. She marry a Singapore and became a coach for the current team.

For now, let's share our joy in having achieve the impossible 2 Bronze Medal. cheers

There is a Singaporean but she's a reserve. I used to play table tennis during my primary school years. I think they should have let her play instead of the pr. Just one true Singaporean is enough to please the citizens.
