I'm about to relinquish my 5i and swap it for a 5H. Wondering whether any other GRians have done the same Smile

I had bought a 5H with exact specs as my other hybrids because I just couldn't hit the Cobra S3 Pro CB 5i

but then I switched set to BFG CB003 with SF. hitting 5i is not an issue anymore. 5i just slightly more versatile than 5H to hit in heavy winds or to get out of forests

ah yes....the 5i or 5hybrid conundrum. i've been facing the same issue for a while. I sometimes just put both the 5i and 5hybrid in my bag. but in reality, i find myself using my 5hybrid more than my 5iron.

The typical advantage of a 5iron is that it's supposed to be more versatile ie can hit from deeper lies. but i find that unless ur ball is really burried in the rough, a 5hybrid can just as easily hit a ball out of a 'normal' rough with a steeper angle of attack. furthermore, where the ball is really burried in the rough, i would probably not even consider using a 5iron. probably a 9i or PW to lay it up.

i think the bottomline is which u feel more confident and can hit more consistently with. so if u find urself hesitating before pulling out your 5i for your approach shot, then i think it's time to consider the 5hybrid =)

I thought GF only uses a 4H. Didn't know he also has a 5H.

Thanks, SC. I can accommodate both a 5H and 5i, and perhaps that's what I'll do. No harm in carrying both since I'm within my # of clubs. Good advice. I too think that I'll eventually use the 5H more.

I am a strong believer that one should only carry the clubs which one can hit.

For me....I carry a very small golf bag.

If that were the case, I'd carry a plastic bag with a putter.

From my numerous posts about a 25 Deg Hybrid (aka 5 Hybrid/Rescue) being a beginner's best friend, it it pretty obvious where I stand on the 5i vs 5H debate.

I've been using a 5 hybrid since I bought my first set 3 years ago. Burner 08 Rescue 25 Deg. Replaced it with a 25 Deg Tourstage hybrid slightly more than a year ago.

Btw, I also have a 28 Deg Tourstage hybrid (6H) which you can try tomorrow if you want.

That being said, perhaps my over reliance on hybrids is why I am such a poor ball striker with an inefficient and inconsistent swing. Not enough feedback to help me improve.

Thanks, you've reassured me, Derek Smile I may be tempted to give your 6H a try... ho ho ho.
