PostSubject: campervan/golf trip   Fri Sep 14, 2012 12:33 pm

hi guys,

my name's kayden and currently working on an uni assignment that requires me to do a small business plan.

my business for this assignment is to take tourists from our region to australia and tour it on a campervan. my 'company' will tailor the itineraries to suit various groups of people. i.e. golf exploration tours for the avid golfers.

what inspired me to do this was that i realised the idea of a campervan holiday is a very uncommon thought for singaporeans when it comes to planning their vacations and i've personally tried campervan travelling and often wonder why such an awesome way of travelling has not been popularised by the tour agencies as compared to the boring tour group packages.

in order to make my business plan more complete, i will greatly appreciate inputs from fellow GRians in areas such as:
1) have you heard of campervanning?
2) if you have heard of it, have you tried it?
3)if not, what's holding you back?
4)what will you be looking out for when signing up a tour package with a tour agency that does campervan tours in australia

there is no commercial purpose to this; except for better grades. so PLEASE help me.
every bit of input will help a great deal.

have a great day everyone!

1) have you heard of campervanning? Yes

2) if you have heard of it, have you tried it? Not yet

3)if not, what's holding you back? Lack of time to plan, location choices, etc

4)what will you be looking out for when signing up a tour package with a tour agency that does campervan tours in australia? Accurate GPS, confirmed parking lots at places in itenarary, costs must make sense against packaged tour, self-drive tour, etc

1) have you heard of campervanning?
Yes but not for golf trip

2) if you have heard of it, have you tried it?
Nope

3)if not, what's holding you back?
When i am going on golf trip... I prefer to do least traveling between my round. After game of golf I would prefer to relax and campvanning do not sound appealing.

4)what will you be looking out for when signing up a tour package with a tour agency that does campervan tours in australia
Although i would be interested in traveling to different region for golf, including Australia. I do not see my self campervanning...

hope it helps

1) have you heard of campervanning?
Yes. Haven't come across any golf tour package that comes with campervanning

2) if you have heard of it, have you tried it?
I've done a 7 days campervanning trip around Queensland state during my study days in Brisbane.

3)if not, what's holding you back?
Haven't had the time due to work Sad

4)what will you be looking out for when signing up a tour package with a tour agency that does campervan tours in australia
It would be a great experience if golf and campervanning comes together as a tour package. Pointers to look out for from a golfer & tourist point of view:

1. Promotional rates
2. accessible to prestigious like Royal Adelaide, Royal Queensland etc
3. Campsites are the most important for campervanning
4. Motels, Campsites, etc

Hope these helps Smile

1) have you heard of campervanning?
Yes.
2) if you have heard of it, have you tried it?
No.

3)if not, what's holding you back?
If travelling with family, kids are too young. Risk of them not able to handle the 'rough' trip. Camping is fine with options to end earliy but can't stop the bookings/plan for such trips easily. If with friends for golf, think focus is on golf rather than campervan which requires full enjoyment by itself. Safety concern in ability to handle such vehs in unfamiliar roads.

4)what will you be looking out for when signing up a tour package with a tour agency that does campervan tours in australia. Assurance of comprehensive orientation to the veh. Breakdown recovery process. Suggested itinenary.

as randall pointed out: campsites are the most important, need daily discharge and daily topup...

if its just golf, i dun think i will have problems with campervanning, most golf courses have ample space to park overnite, but its still the daily requirement as i mentioned above...

however in reality, it cant be just golf.... one might do some sightseeing, again if its in the countryside, no problem, but in bigger towns, not only will have problem parking the campervan, moving around in the city can be quite a pain unless one hual a moped for city use

u can play golf in the day n have lots of fun...

but when nite comes, staying in a campervan with a few guys can be quite boring...

1) yes hv heard of it.

2) never tried it.

3) Why not? - need to charge up at dedicated campervan sites. these sites r usually just outside the city or urban areas. Got to take a cab or bus to go into the city. v troublesome.

For golfers, most country clubs offer accomodation. if not stay in budget hotels nearby. 4 batangs squeeze together - a bit too close for comfort.
cost of renting car + budget hotel may be = to cost of renting campervan.

Oso, a campervan for 4 is not small, u know. It is almost like driving a lorry / truck. Not easy to find someone who wants to be the driver, not to mention drive trucks Rolling Eyes

4) reputable n experienced agent. good back-up service, insurance coverage.

good luck to ur assignment. have a great day!

In my opinion, Campervan Tours does not really go along with Golf Trip. I don't quite like the idea of travelling around in Campervan, eat, sleep, shit in it and go for Golf Game. I would like to have a good rest on a proper bed in an Aircon (or Heater) room at night, have good shower in the morning before heading for a round of golf.

1) have you heard of campervanning? yup
2) if you have heard of it, have you tried it? yup on fishing expeditions
3)if not, what's holding you back?

xtxtxtling: I hope u know the diff bt campervan, motorhome and caravan. Campervan usually provides mobility and a/c + heated accommodation w modest cooking amenities and w or w/o portable toilet facilities. Motorhome is similar but bigger than campervans and includes cooking and self contained toilet/ shower facilities. Caravans are quite self sufficient units for sleeping cooking and bathing/ toilet but are just shells that needs to be towed by a vehicle usually a 4WD and parked at caravan parks where tariffed water and electricity is provided. Campervans being self propelled are best if u wanna go from one remote location to another for the particular activity eg fishing spots, birdwatching, hunting, nature hikes etc where there is a need to sleep over. Might not be so apt for golfing as golf courses are pretty much located in civilised locations and besides has all the creature comforts provided incl toilets, restaurants and even accommodation in the case of Australian golf courses. Like bro s-killer alluded to the preference for a good hotel accommodation in between games.. Also since most golf courses are located near or in cities in Australia visitors may also want to do touristy visits say to casinos and downtown shopping which a campervan be a rather cumbersome vehicle to be using. Your idea might work if u add in some activities that may complement golf which requires a campervan for the earlier stated reasons ie remote locations w need for sleepover... hope this helps

thank you for your insights. when i said campervan, i was only referring to mobile camping in general. and yeah, will definitely take your suggestions into consideration and make the holiday a more complete and fun on
