PostSubject: The Claw   Sun Sep 16, 2012 9:57 am

I've notice Phil Mickelson used the claw grip to putt in his recent pga tour events. Sergio Garcia has also been using the claw grip in recent seasons and helped him achieve better putting stats and results (2 wins on euro tour end of last yr and 1 PGA tour win this year I believe). Other notables are Chris di Marco (remember him? :p ) and Mark Calceveccia (now on senior tour)

I've struggled with the putting yips, in specifically in pulling my putts. Of late I've also switched to the claw grip with some success. I find that with this grip Im releasing the putter head better down the line. Anyone tried this style of putting?

Refer to Dave pelz the short game guru on the differernt type of claw grips:

Bro, I also got belly putter... I tried almost anything avail to cure the yips

But belly size changed a bit, so belly putter now in store room...

Jokes aside, I lose my feel for distance with the belly putter

Bro, I find that I have better distance control with my belly putter. I also managed to make the shorter putts which I usually pulled. Somehow it seems to work well for me. Hopefully my belly doesn't grow too much in the near future.

When I first got my belly putter, I was putting like shit. Then I experimented with various ways of gripping it and found one that works for me.

thanks ZX yeah I'm in the same boat as pocketace, my hands have a mind of their own, they dont follow what my brain ordered them to do, especially when facing a 3-4 foot puts

this problem partially accounts for the 3-3 4-4 strokes ZX need to give me, the other is my pitching yip.

i will try the claw and the perpendicular

For 3-4 footers, I tried a method that is very effective and 100% hit rate. It's called the 'gimme'. However, that method is dependent on your playing partners agreeing you to apply that method... Beer

I also had the tendency to pull/push my shorter putts. Changed to the SuperStroke grip.

Using a grip where both my index fingers run down the sides of the grip and putt with it(no idea what kind of grip is it, i just messed around with different grips and discover this work best for me.)

Am putting a lot better now.

Now my zen zim is on jumbo size zen / feeltec grip and it feels alright actually. I'm also tempted to change to superstroke on my Scotty but I fear it makes the putter look fugly... I may just do it when I'm back in Sg next... Never try never know!

I'm not quite sure bro, it happens naturally. I try not to think bout it, which I think is good cos if too much mechanics get in my way, I'm back to the yips

Why dont you try it out?
