at the range:
on a good day, i hit 150m.
on a bad day, i roll the ball 5m.
even in flight, the ball will go left or right, up or down.
does club fitting remedy the inconsistency problem?

Club fitting can help but it's only one piece of the puzzle. Club fitters can get clubs fitted to your swing, provided that you have some consistency in how you swing. If not, it'll be like trying to paint a car while it's moving.

So, definitely get yourself fitted but at the same time, don't rule out options like more practice and getting a coach.

You must pray to god, sometime I got lucky shots, I top the ball for second shots, roll all the way next to pin for birdie

disagree with fat pooh bear.

if u cannot swing consistently within 70% range of hitting it in the sweet spot, pls do not waste your money on a club fitter. just give it us and we donate to charity.

i think by practicing a lot, you get more feel of hitting the sweet spot, you can reduce inconsistency. by far it is the hardest part of golf: to be consistent

ok if you really need to spend some money...here's how.

1. buy an aim mate to get 46 variations for target training and looking cool on the range.

2. buy a tour striker to get more consistency in ball striking and hitting further. if you are the boss of that event company, you can use this to hit your defenseless employee instead of that wooden putter

3. buy an impact stick to improve swing speed and create havoc on the range with all the swooshing sound. if you leave it in the car and get into a road rage situation, use and and you will not be charged with possession of a deadly weapon.

hope it helps.......DGman

I think getting a coach and investing time practicing will help better...

When you can begin to consistently hit a ball sweet, then go for club fitting... the club fitter can give u a better assessment when you can consistently hit a shot for analysis...

You might hit the ball too high/ too low, draw, fade.. but as long as you are hitting the ball more consistently... not 5m to 150m variation!... then you can benefit better from a club fitter...

See your golf pro, loads of practice, and if you still have spare cash, go to a club fitter, and repeat from the beginning of the sentence again.

does club fitting remedy the inconsistency problem?

aling: first of all we dunno what club u used to hit 150m on a good day. We also dunno how tall you are, how big your hands are and ur general physiology to determine if you happen to be in the 5 percentile of the population where you may be out of whack with the "average" norms which manufacturers apply to the design of standardised golf clubs.. Cos if you are 2.2m tall and have big hands u definitely need some prior fitting or at least professional advice as to club lengths and grips to suit your physiology... If u r say 1.8m (Male) then the average joe's set shd be ok for ur swing lessons. Also we dunno what type of clubs you are using atm (steel r graphite , flex X r S r R r A r L).. and if it suits your swing speed... maybe u are young and hunky with 100mph swing speed and using an A flex set then i think you definitely shd see a fitter to get it sorted out... heck we dun even know if u are M or F? or if you are a 60 year old geriatric...

Hope you get the drift that its tough for GRians to give advice without knowing much about you and how long you hv been playing golf...

No.

Proper instruction, warm up, exercise and taking it all in slowly will gradually remedy the inconsistency problem.

Golf is like Traditional Chinese Medicine. You won't get an instant fix. Rather, long term consumption of the correct Chinese Medicine will balance out the Yin and Yang of your body leading to a stronger constitution.

Of course there are screwed up times as well.

I think its similar to buying a car.

Will upgrading from a Camry to a BMW make you a better driver?

That also explains why there are so many crap BMW drivers on the road.

I use the analogy of wearing a suit

I think if I maintain my present life style, and I get a personal fitting for a Hugo Boss suit...
I will then look like a Hugo Boss model.

Spot on. I think u need to give us more info, as indicated by Jeffman

but generally speaking, unless u are freakishly tall / short or have freakishly long or short arms, then off the rack clubs should do just fine for training purposes.
