How do you practice practicing?

You practice your practice swing first, then you do your practice swing, then you hit the ball?

That's serious stuff bro.

Its about 1-2 times a week. not more than 100 balls per session. Tend to get inconsistent swings after awhile. will be about 30 driver 30 7iron and 30 4iron etc.

I've no idea how some people can hit 150-200balls at a go. *shrugs*

Perhaps my fitness level is not that good ?

I'm in the same boat, I can only hit like one bucket of ball, sometime the last 10-15 i just do some simple chip to finish it off as no more energy.

Back to topic, once a week during the weekend morning, to enjoy the fresh air and tell myself its the weekend, stop thinking of work!!

I tried practicing looking for my balls in the range... The tall beam always gets in the way

I think with the driving range, it's not always about the number of balls you hit but rather the quality of your shots which you want to correct and master. Remember that while practice makes perfect, it also makes permanent. So, if you keep hitting a bad shot at the range, there's a chance that the swing is just going to stick with you and mess up your game for the longer term.

hi all..
am wondering if you have a usual practice routine at driving range?
say start with a particular iron? hit X no. of balls, change to another club?
or randomly just hit what you feel like it?

I have gradually worked my way down to 50 balls a session ...

approx. 5 balls each, but flexible depending on results:
1) 50-60m pitches
2) Full wedge shots
3) 9iron
4) 7iron
5) 5iron
7) Hyrbid - deck
8) Hybrid - tee
9) 3wood - tee
10) Driver - tee
Each shot hit with a preshot routine and with a specific target in mind ..

Then off to putt and chip for an hr

Next step would be to simply simulate holes on the range .. e.g. Driver , 9iron ... Driver , hybrid, pitch etc

Hi All,

Need your advice. I'm a very high handicapper.. average 115 in scores. Question: when i go range, should i concentrate on 1 or 2 clubs before i improve? or should i spread across more clubs when i range?

Tks

I usually start off with wedges for chipping as a warm up before i go for my irons.

Routine A in range

I will work from #6 - 9 , without any aim of how many balls to hit, as long i hit 5 x good shots as per what i want, i will move on. If no i will max keep to 15 balls per iron .

Wd and rescue will get more shots as i feel they're pretty crucial to me as they would tend to be inconsistent.

Finally the big gun would be the last to finish up.

Routine B on turf city grass range

Course simulation

Start with driver ->wd ->rescue->2 x iron shot -> 1 x pitch / chip

Irons and wedge varies

Me no expert, IMHO if i know where my problem lies , i would focus on the problem more but i will not neglect other clubs, they just get lesser shots only

1st of all we don't know, your score is due to what, clubs or swing? Also non of us seen you played. But when I started, range I normally play a lot of irons and wedges before woods. Start warmup with wedge, then with short iron then with long iron.

Usually when you can swing well with your 7 irons, it is easier to swing with all shorter irons before you move into longer iron, driver or wood ..

For beginner, I would suggest to focus in your swing and learn to swing well with the 8 or 7 iron 1st.

Try using the longer 7 iron and the rest of all shorter clubs, do not use any hybird, wood or driver in the course. I can ensure you will play below 115 every time ...

'

my high score is due to my inconsistency.. almost all clubs i can hit a good shot, then next shot is bad.. Sad

Bro tankh76, i think we both facing the same problem.. Currently my score is 110-120. Tee off with a good short. 2nd shot, go into rough or out of fairway... the putting also inconsistence.. now i just focus train on short game like pitching and putting... hopefully able to lower the stroke. Haha..
.. how abt u??

Best to play more on course in this case to get more exposure on playing on different lie conditions. On course you get:

1) Uphill Lie
2) Downhill Lie
3) Ball Above Feet
4) Ball Below Feet

Each lie has impact on your posture, grip, stance and swing...

And we haven't come to bunker shots yet, not to mention putting Very Happy

IMO, Range serves to make sure your basic swing technique is OK, and to validate some pointers picked up during the course. Best way to improve is to play more on course.

breaking 100: if u bogey every hole, thats a 90 score, think if one manage his/her game well, it should be attainable within a year, most strokes are lost in 2 main areas......

1) penalty strokes ie OB, hazard, lost ball etc
2) in/around the greens

if one play around the hazard n keep the ball in play most times, i dun see how it cant be attained.

as mentioned previously, analyse the course, not all par3s are 180m, par4s are 400m n par5 500m, thus from white tees, just play smart n be realistic about your level of play, there are many ways to play bogey, sometimes a couple of double bogeys is alrite, as long as one keeps away from triple or worse, breaking 100 is very possible.......

for example; par 4 320m, bunker at 210-220m left n right, take 3w/5w n play abt 190m/200m, only left 120-130m to the green, no reason to cheong driver, if not a wood person, then play 5i to 150m, follow by 6i to abt 20-30m away from the green, away from greenside bunkers, hit those high percentage shots, dun need to cheong for GIR, chip on green n 2 putted for bogey, if most holes bogey follow by couple of double, then how not to break 100.......jmho

gonna spent 4-5hrs on the course, why get frustrated, work is already frustrating, so just enjoy the walk n company of friends........ u can be frustrated at the range, but once on the course, a wise old man said to me "why pay n be frustrated, so stupid"

Actually in order to break 100, so far I know cannot have more than 3 double par, for every double par u get, u need to come back with at least 2 par so to bring the average of per hole down.
