PostSubject: UV Compression Suits for Golf   Tue Oct 02, 2012 5:41 pm

I used to think that the body suit that people usually wore under their polo tops was just to prevent UV.
Now i've come to realize that it actually does serve a deeper purpose of enhancing recovery and performance.

As such, i'm looking to buy one for myself, but would like to seek feedback on this..

What do you guys think is a good brand to go for? I guess Skins and Under Armour would be the most popular brands at the moment?

eh thought it was oso supposed to keep you cooler during the course of playing in the tropical sun? Razz

Skins ICE combines proven BioAcceleration Technology with Microencapsulation Technology (MET) providing you with all the features and benefits of the SKINS Sport range with the added benefit of keeping you cool when the weather heats up. Skins ICE uses MET to embed tiny microcapsules into our proprietary fabric during the manufacturing process. The effects of activity like perspiration, friction, pressure and body temperature trigger these microcapsules to release a cooling menthol substance that has been scientifically proven to induce a cool feeling by stimulating thermo receptors in your skin. A subtle menthol aroma is also released during activity which further evokes a cool sensation. We should point out that your skin and muscles will not be physically cooled while wearing Skins ICE as this would be detrimental, especially during exercise.

If you really wanted to have a suits, I would recommend SKIN ICE. They ever come with a can of cooler that you can spray under arm after each wash. It gave a cooling feeling.

I have the black & white suit but was not using them now. I felt it too troublesome to wear them. I just use the Skin sleeve is good enough for 18 holes

Bro, Skin ICE is far more expensive. Standard Skin LS is more than sufficient.

Hello guys, saw this thread and thought I'd share my views on compression garment as I'm an avid user. There are many brands out there in the market and you can get them relatively easy these days but there are only 3 brands that stand out. Namely, Skins, 2XU and Under armour. I have tried out all 3 brands and personally I prefer 2XU and Under armour.

Price wise should be relatively similar if you purchased them locally. Alternatively, you can try to order online from their individual website. For Under armour the shipping fee is charged per piece irregardless of how many you order (~20SGD). Skins and 2XU can be found in Runner's world etc.

Material wise for tops I'd prefer 2XU and Under armour. I felt the material was a tad too thin for Skins but it's really up to individual. Some may feel its too thick, some too thin. I feel 2XU has the best overall feel. As for whether to wear the full top suit or just the sleeves is again up to individuals. Some would feel the compression garment is restricting their swing, some would feel its keep their muscle taut hence more resulting power. The reason why I'd wear the full suit is simply because I have them and it prevents tanlines in the mid-upper arm, I do not feel the suit is restricting my swing simply because I'm used to wearing them already. However, I do use the compression garment more for recovery purposes i.e. after a intense session of weights or exercise. So maybe the sleeves would suffice?

These are my personal views and preferences and do not represent the general public.
Cheers guys!

I have 3 black Skin and one WHite, Plus one 2XU I have been using them for quite some time,

Now its a habit that I must put on whether cycling long distances or playimg golf.

But recently I notice one of my Black Skin right arm fray, send in to Distributor they mentioned

that the Skin warranty period was over therefore cant replace. The white Skin I wouldn't

recommend as it turn yellowish after some usage.

2XU I feel a little rubbery slightly thicker than Skin, otherwise it good.

cheers

Using skins (white) and 2XU (white) LS top.
Quite similar experience to above users.
White Skins turn slight yellowish, thinner (vs 2XU)
2XU thicker / rubbery feel.
Prefer the 2XU LS top, feel better "compression" than skins.

Actually, I think they have discontinued the SKINS ICE series. Prices used to be around $220 for long sleeves, but many shops are selling them at $66-$70. Hard to find sizes now unless is XXL.

Do correct me if I am wrong about the discontinuation. =)

Bro, its not hot but quite cooling just a little uncomfortable if you are wearing for the first time. But when it rain and you are wearing it, its like wearing a air-con should you continue with your 18 hole.

i was thinking of getting the body suit but then i felt its too troublesome to wear one. so i only use the arm sleeve for my game, its enough not to get you sunburnt. if you want cooling sensation, wear poloshirt with polyester material, not those cotton one. well, i feel polyester is more cooling than cotton ones. got wind and it feels so good ahahaha

I used to wear arm sleeves as well, but find that they keep slipping down during the game such that I need to keep pulling them up.

I'm wearing 2XU compression top (white) whenever I play now. Pretty good and snug fit and the material is quick drying which is good.

If you're considering only arm sleeves, there's another brand called Compressport that you might want to check it out. I swear by their calf sleeves when running Very Happy

Thanks everyone for the feedback!

Shimizu, does the white 2XU turn yellowish after a while as well?

Btw, i am assuming everyone just throws their compression suits into the washing machine after each use, as they do with every other piece of garment ya? (not sure if frequent washing will cause accelerated damage)

Nope, still white Very Happy....and I've had it for a while now...

And yes I dump it in the washing machine. Of course basic washing rules apply (i.e. don't mix white with colours etc...)

The problem I had with 2XU is the wording / 2XU logo they printed on the fabric tends to stick together when you fold them up. Some parts of the printing also fading off

But generally I agree that 2XU slightly thicker than Skins. Still comfy though. I've seen skins fabric washed and used till it is translucent especially near the elbows area. It's on the thin side.

Bro, my 2XU sleeves turn yellowish after a while (maybe 3 - 6 washes). Yes, i put it into a separate washing bag to prevent it from over-stretching while spinning and wash together with other sports attire.

sorry to steal your thread. Are there any difference wearing Black or White SKIN under the hot sun in singapore? Do you feel hotter wearing Black or do you feel the same effect as White?

Never wore black before, but I've had kakis wearing black skins while teeing off at noon, and they're not complaining....

I'm considering wearing black, but its' more about colour coordination on golfing attire more than anything else Very Happy

i wear a black 2XU and it feels awesome. the UV protection does work as well. only issue i have is the wording on the arm came off after awhile, but other than that aesthetic flaw, the material is top notch and very lasting.

Does anyone know of shop online shops?

Ya, I got my compresssport calf guard from CRC; cheaper than local. Although I think in future I'll support the smaller local shops like "The Runner's Gait" because I think I need to support local lah.. hahaha
