PostSubject: Is cpm 3 digits shaft important to you???   Mon Dec 17, 2012 2:13 pm

Hi golfers,

Just sharing.....

Every shaft has a three digits cpm number (cycle per minute) when measure by a frequency equipment that tell us about the shaft flex.

Do you know how many amateur golfers who are using shafts that have cpm of 250 and above? Many…..

Do you know how many single hcp golfers are using shafts that have cpm of 250 and above? Not many……

Who are the golfers that are able to handle shafts that have cpm of 250 and above? Mostly the pro and those who have swing speed over 100mph…

Are those golfers who are using shafts that have cpm of 250 and above able to find good ball flight dispersion? Not many….WHY?

Do you fall into any of the above? If yes, you might not be enjoying your golf as much as you like as most of the time you will be searching for your ball. Good for you if you are not but don’t be too happy as you might not be able to find as many fairways as you wanted.

Is cpm shaft really that important to your golf??? You tell me……

Cheers

You tell us leh; since you are the one providing the data.
We don't know the source of your data/study or the sample size, to try to even make an educated guess.

How is shaft cpm measured? Butt clamped and then freq measured at the tip?
If shaft have different profiles: High kick, low kick, different bend points.. Will butt clamping and freq measurement at the tip reflect the different shaft profiles?

cheers

amateur golfer cannot swing more than 100mph?

why is CPM and playing status even associated together, shaft flex should be base on swing speed and not playing ability.

would i be correct to say that the stiffness of the flex is directly related to cpm? ie the stiffer the shaft, the higher the cpm?

in other words, are u simply saying that recreational golfers are playing shafts that are too stiff for them?

just want to clarify as the cpm thing sounds rather complicated.

cpm (as it relates to golf shafts) is a measure of how flexible or stiff a shaft is. A higher CPM means a stiffer shaft, a lower CPM a more flexible shaft.

Unlike manufacturer shaft ratings, which vary from brand to brand, and sometimes even across models, CPM is a standardized measurement, akin to labelling a shirt by collar width and sleeve length as opposed to Small, Medium and Large.

It isn't really a magical number that once you understand is going to cut 10 strokes off your game.

Unless you have a habit of buying 2nd hand clubs with aftermarket "S" or "X" shafts, it is highly unlikely that knowing this number will provide you with any additional insight as to why you can't hit the driver straight ...

However, if it is free ... fun to get your driver checked and see what the actual flex rating of the shaft is ...

wouldn't the head weight also affect the cpm of the shaft?

i think you are not being clear at all in how you are asking people abt shaft cpm...

so since i'm an amateur golfer, and a 17.1 handicap, i cannot use a shaft with cpm more than 250?

my swing speed is also being 100mph... so how?

quit golf ah?

i think you need to quantify your statements before you sprout rubbish...

cos i've seen you in person and your knowledge for golf clubs leaves much to be desired...

this isn't some african third world country anymore...

Sham ... your 80% swing with a 5 wood is more than 100mph ...

and you need to declare 2 handicaps, with and without alcohol ... LOL!

haha
bro, you've not seen my current swing since i got hurt..

i was fitted by the titleist fitter Gene Saunders last week and he clocked my driver swing speed @ 98mph and yet he finds that the ideal shaft for me would be a Diamana Whiteboard 73X which typically runs about 270+ cpm (depending on head weight)

Generally, like some had said, few factors can affect the cpm... To me, its kinda complicated...

I'm very interested to hear from TS reply to AM posts... Beer

Ha ha bro...

I read somewhere(cant remember, maybe in golfwrx) that a S-Flex shaft cpm can range from 235-290 plus...

N ur understanding is as u mentioned...

Sigh... Like I said, this cpm thing is really too complicated...

Ouch! Temp injury only right? Rest well my friend, don't use those core muscles so often at night

And yes like u mentioned, how your swing loads the shaft has a large part to play in the right shaft flex. Although to be fair, in most cases, faster swing speed normally equates to stiffer shaft.
