The manner in which this forum reacts to my post surprises me.

I do not disagree to being fined. Of cos when I drive above 100km p hr on an expressway. There is always a risk of being caught. Then again. Who can put your hand on your heart to say you have NEVER drove above 100 km/ hr on the expressway? Does driving 105-110 on an expressway constitutes irresponsible driving? In the eyes of the law.. We impeached it. All that own cars here will know that in real sense. 105-110 is pretty normal in SG expressways.

I also do not agree that I'm a irresponsible driver that drives a "fast car". I don't own a Ferrari or Porsche. In 13 years of driving, this is my first demerit point and summon for speeding. I doubt I put ppl lives at risk..

And this forum is meant to share experiences both golf and non golf..

And I am surprised at the personal remarks on me with regards to me being ignorant about laws of Singapore or being a brat that cry foul when being caught for speeding. Indeed. I have never been fined or given demerit points. In fact. I never got stopped before by a highway patrol. I also never got caught by a speed cam or red light cam. Thus in this case, I have no experiences. But that doesn't give anyone the right to make personal remarks about people you don't know

WTH is a Sabaru ?

Coin from the word - Sabotage ... Subaru is an object used to sabo people and hence, the name is Sabaru! Cool

Bro Andrew... relax man. You know that posting such question in a forum will invite all sorts of comments whether you like it or not right?

However, I believe nickcstan has already answered your question about the legality of "entrapment" in the little red dot.

Chill man... it's 4 points... you still have 8 more to go and the points will be reset again after 1 year (I'm guessing). For the fine, just play 1 less round of golf lor...

Andrew-golf, what I think got folks (myself included) riled up was your query on the possibility of having TP reduce the fine and demerit points on the basis that you were entrapped. Plus, you asked if it was legal.

The answer to both questions is yes. You can ask TP to reduce the fine and demerit points, i.e. you can appeal. And, yes, it was legal.

Truth is, you committed an offence. It may not have been a major one in your eyes (or the eyes of others) but it was an offence nonetheless. This means that you'll need to be penalized which I'm sure you're prepared to be.

But questioning the actions of the police and citing entrapment isn't fair. It's no different from a stakeout IMHO and I'm sure you'd be pleased if the police did so and caught a burglar who was about to rob your home.

Yes, we are all guilty of driving above speed limits and yes, at some time or other, we're likely to run afoul of the law. However, we should take our lashes and move on. It's a good lesson and hopefully, it won't be repeated.

That said, I'm not sure why some remarks were made. I agree that they were below the belt but then again, this is an open forum and posting here for input/comments is an open invitation for replies from the kind and the candid.

In any case, move on. Don't let this get to you. If you want, reach out to TP and see if they can help but I hope (whatever the outcome) that your "brush with the law" serves as a reminder to all of us that speeding or driving recklessly does more harm than good.

My 2c.

Bro Andrew stay cool n thanks for sharing.. me didn't know SLE TPE got speedtraps too! like one bro said its probably an unmarked TP car... btw GPS with speedtrap POIs are very annoying to say the least and I oso removed them cos if u drive 1kph over the speed limit u kena the annoying "dong" esp in JB! hehe!

btw am currently now in Western Australia n during this festive period the traffic cops impose DOUBLE DEMERITS for any traffic violation/ offence... and they are also v hungry to meet their summons KPIs so much so that they are very active hunting entrapping speeding / drunken drivers resulting in a driving culture here where almost all drivers drive at the speed limit.. even at 40kph thro school zones cos there are bloody cops everywhere w the laser guns! good thing Sg TP not so desperate to collect revenues thro traffic fines!

you have a total of 24 points, 12 points is for "P" plate drivers

Note its 24 pts for two years, u get points back after one year from offence provided you do not commit more tracffic offence.

"P" plate is 12 pts for first year

Since you are already coming to terms with having to pay the fine and gotten your answers on the legal viewpoint, just take it as playing along with the govt's system lo. If the appeal fails, so be it. Anyway its just 4 points only, no need to score full marks like in primary school tests and exams. There's no prize for maintaining a perfect track record except for a additional 5% safe driver discount on your car ins renewals. So damage is effectively minimal or insignificant since you claim it's your first incidence of demerit points in so many years of driving. Coin this incident as "Suay". With your clean track record previously , I'm sure you wldnt be worried too much on clocking more points.

Bro, now they always do it this way. Trying to hide themselves, last time they stay on top of overhead bridge now they hide in some corners. Another place I often notice is Adam road stretch around the Jap association there. Btw I think they more interested in taking your pts then the fine.

bro Andrew , I reckon you go ahead and appeal. You can do it online via onemotoring.com. Just don't expect to be totally write off. Any outcome will give you piece of mind. Who knows due to your good record they might consider your appeal. Best of luck bro.

Bro enwee, my apology. Please do not encourage others to lie their way out. Incase you forgotten " honesty is the best policy ". And bro Andrew, salute you for knowing what is right and wrong and chose not to point the fault to anyone else. Very Happy

Well in the 1st place i did ask him whether he want to write to appeal. Of course tell the TP, the driver is not you maybe a lie, but looked, many people, asking wife/relative who don't drive practically, around do that even the doctor do that. If the demerit pts matter so much to you/him. That's another option isn't it? In such of cases like this I would not said, in most cases, appeal may not help but of cos no harm trying out.

Anyway he only wanted to know whether is it right or wrong for TP trying to ambush speeder rather than be there to be seen so that you won't speed. Anyway let's face it who does not speed here, it's only how fast.
