Play by the rules and hopefully a capable "opposition" will rise one day I suppose.
Too many things to love in life than to be unhappy over such trivial matters so chill ya?

pushslice - Not comparing with other forums.
Just feel very Singaporean in the way some things are being done.
Nothing right or wrong... There are always plus and minuses, and people who love it and others who don't.

hi bro devil_wq, not here to pick up an argument with you but i diff from you comments on being a Singaporean. We should in fact be proud of our track record.
Compared to many countries out there, our country leaders are doing much much better. Being a small nation with no natural resources, our people are able to live in a safe environment & life free from hunger, what more can we ask for?
I have been to some countries (which are developed countries) around us and the people there envy our nation and how fortunate we Singaporeans are!!
Its true our leaders made mistake but they are human like us. Its like golf, not everyday is a beautiful day and when things fail, we work hard to ensure we make it better the next round.....
just to share my opinion and lets enjoy golf more, my friend...

+100....simply supporting the statement in general.
Spore indeed is a great country. Don't hv to look far.....just countries around you.

Haizzzz

I also in same boat.
1. joined in 2009 but took me till early or mid 2012 to clock 25 min posts. (I don't like to spam and I hate being accused of Spamming)
2. so happy that can post in WTS but never gotten around to posting anything
3. then suddenly pop! 25 raised to 50
4. wrote to mod to see whether they can waive this for old-timers who already qualified previosuly...but never get any reply.
5. at the rate I'm going, will probably never get to sell anything here

BUT, I am a guest here. So I persist. But just peeved that my PM didn't even warrant a reply.
But, its ok as I am a guest here.

I want to say first that I got nothing against the Mods here whatsoever and I am in fact thankful for the efforts that they have put in. *Thanks Mods!*

Also, I am definitely not here to argue against anything but hopefully generate a healthy (i.e. no right or wrong, no criticisms, and definitely no picking on one another) discussion on certain issues.

Just find that I can draw a number or parallels between this issue of posting in marketplace and a number of issues in the country now (e.g. population, foreigners, opposition, even COE, etc.) and therefore the Singaporean comment (note: nothing against our leaders or mods).

Just a few of my thoughts on this issue of posting in marketplace:

- Is having many postings in marketplace detrimental to the forum? I certainly don't think so as I have bought and sold many things and along the way, met very nice people, arranged to play golf together, met them in faraway countries and even became friends along the way. Just thought about the people I would not have met along the way if this restriction had been put in earlier. What a waste really and to me, it kind of goes against the spirit of having a forum that aims to build friendship among the local golf community...

- I think the main idea here is to prevent abuse, encourage responsible buying and selling, and generally good etiquette. But is increasing the number of posts the solution? 50 posts (with spams) is seriously not difficult to achieve if someone's main aim is to eventually sell something. But there are a lot of people (myself included) that prefers to just read and comment only when I can actually contribute. And along the way, enjoy the process of exchanging clubs (that's a form of contribution too?) within the community here. Eventually, I think everybody benefit with more good WTB and WTS threads. More club choices, more traffic for the forum, meet more people, more relevant postings, etc. Don't quite understand the fear of this becoming ebay. It is not meant to be and therefore will never be.

Also, can we seriously rethink about this "It is my house and you are a guest. Not happy get lost" comment? I am quite sure this is not what the starters of this forum is thinking as the first spirit of a forum is that it is public and is open for discussions for like-minded people. Without the members, there is no forum. Of course, there are always bad hats that are not welcome by all and the focus should really be on minimising their participation. With reference to politics again, I am sure we do not like to see a government do whatever it deems fit just because they help build the country and bring it to where it is today. Eventually, it is the attitude that people can get fed up with and not the actual policies as I would like to believe they are always in the best interests of the people. Mistakes can be made along the way of course.

I really hope this forum remains a "public golf course" in the spirit of things and not eventually become a "members only club".

Audi - I just hope that I have spoken what many in the forum feels.

Slicer51 - As impossible as it is, some will always try and I admire the drive and zeal of these people. For me, I just try to remain objective and not offend anybody.

Cheers.

Wait until you have your own forum, perhaps you will understand why all the control are necessary.

I understand what you are saying as an individual but not all behave the same you think or do.

Controls are necessary but overdoing it can sometimes be counter-productive.

Just want to share some observations in HK. More people, more cars, cheaper cars, smaller land area for roads, but no COE, no ERP and yet the roads are no more congested than SG. Taxis there have no midnight charge, peak hour charge, CBD charge and what have we in SG but taxis are never hard to get. And you get a discount when you call for one! Then the public transport there is nowhere as regulated as ours and yet the penetration or usage rate is much better than ours. Interesting isn't it?

A lot of things that we do better for sure but there are a lot of things to learn from as well... One thing I have come to appreciate is sometimes controls that are put in for a good intent motivates behavior that are counter-productive to what we want to achieve (e.g. when you pay so much for a car upfront, you better drive it to its death! Even if it is a 5-10 mins walk!).

Ok devil, I see you're also passionate abt this forum, i d love to see your posts more, partcipate more beyond this complain abt rule thread, review clubs, review courses, join more games, jio people for more games etc. Look fwd to see you and your participation. This topic is discussed to death already. Marketplace rules are ultimately more "members only" feel to it than" public access"

I think you are misinterpreting cause and effect.
Its easy to blame the regulators or government for the problems we have. But ultimately the cause is the users aka. Citizens/Forummers, not because of the rules.

In HK, Cars are not allowed to anyhow stop. Taxi drivers barely make a living there. Over here, the rules are in place so taxi drivers enjoy the same standard of living as others. Once again before you put your benefits before the taxi uncles. please remember that they also have families to feed. if dun have midnight charge etc, how to keep up with standard of living? who will want to drive midnight shift when there is less people and no extra incentive?

I drive a car even if its a 5 min walk. not because i paid alot for the COE, but because its convenient and i am lazy. So it has nothing to do with COE.

I respect that you maybe one of the law abiding citizens/forummers, but once enough ppl overstep the boundaries. Everybody will suffer from the tightening of rules and regulation.

This is civilisation and society, and thats how laws work. We can't have double standards for rule abiding ppl and those who don't. Esp for forums where u cant really punish offenders.

It is not your fault based on only your observations in HK. I had stayed in HK for many years. did you know that although HK car is cheaper but their packing area is more expensive than Sin 3 room HDB flat ? Also did you check their packing charges per hour ?

If "active" is defined by the number of posts, then I'm definitely a bystander.

If "active" is defined by the time spent here, reading almost all the posts everyday whenever I'm online (especially looking out for nice stuff on WTS) then I am sure I am very very different from a person who just registered. Or someone who has thousands of posts for that matter.

Anyway enough said, I am a guest here after all. And still a newbie. So I know my place.

Cheers.

Slicer51 - I am staying, working, driving, and also taking taxis and trains in HK for the past few years so I think I know enough. Just to add, fuel in HK is more expensive as well. Therein lies the magic. Ownership is affordable but usage is more expensive. So I know many HK-ers who owns nice cars (many at times, which we all love) but use them only when necessary. Other times, take the public transport to save the hassle of driving and parking. Like I said, many things we do better, some things we can learn.

DLWL - Directly or indirectly, regulations shapes behavior. I am sure we all hear about taxis disappearing just before midnight, when it rains, or simply waiting for a call during peak hours in CBD. And do not be mistaken, I am not against paying more for taxis where due and just trying to illustrate how regulations shapes behavior but sometimes in a counter-productive way. And trust me, taxi drivers in HK are nowhere near the poverty line or the bottom earners. You will be surprised to find out what people are willing to pay for the licenses.

pushslice - I look forward to joining those coming to HK and Shenzhen for games. Let me know if anybody needs info or arrangements. But let the discussions continue and don't see it as a complaint session. I am sure as long as we do so responsibly, it will not turn into a mug slinging session. And ultimately, this is the best way to get feedback to continue improving this already very good forum.

Technospaz - Thanks for kind words! (I nearly forgot.) And see you soon!

Cheers.

Correct.

Rules shape behavior. Vice versa no rules shape irresponsible behavior.
The rules created are to the best our moderators cn think of. If thr r better and more easily enforcible ways. Its better to suggest to the mods rather den lament that it is the singaporean way. The true singaporean way is to complain but no give better idea.

Im sure drivers in hk r doing alright. If nt no one will want to be taxi drkvers. Anyway just one more reply n you've hit 50 posts. Not too difficult right:)

DLWL - For me personally, I do not see the need to increase the number of posts or even to have any in the first place. I believe certain things are best left to demand and supply forces as I think we can all more or less agree that more good WTS and WTB threads is ultimately good for everybody.

What I feel we have wrongly assumed here is that people with less than 50 posts cannot add value to the forum on marketplace. I have certainly bought some good stuff from these forum members and guys who are not even on the forum but sell things through their friends.

We should really focus our efforts (mods and forum members alike) on the problematic and irresponsible sellers that break the more commonly acceptable rules and etiquette and remove them and their posts accordingly. What we have done here I feel is detrimental to the members instead, by restricting certain forms of participation (which I believe many genuinely benefit the forum) in the hope of solving a problem.

And yes, I have finally reached the 50 posts required (with all sincere and real posts). I feel good but only because it means that I don't have to feel like I am speaking up because I have not reached the required 50 posts.

And the biggest irony is that the next thing I am going to post on sale shortly is actually for a friend that have not reached the 50 posts. Just want to highlight that whatever will be on marketplace will be on marketplace eventually, let's not make it harder than it should be.

Cheers.

dear sir...

what values are there to add on the marketplace besides WTS n WTB??

if truely one would like to add value to the forum, there are other sections of GR where one can partake or discuss about this beautiful game

as far as i know, this forum was not initiated to encourage buying or selling of clubs but rather to actively promote the game and bring like-minded individuals together

i can see your point but too often there have been many individuals who had use GR as a platform to just sell their gears and nothing else

the minimum post required, in my opinion, is to encourage individuals to at least partake in some form of discussion in the other sections of this forum and hopefully will be able to link up or form a common bond between them, which is what this forum is about

obviously, as much as we do not want to see these merchants in the marketplace, people like you might feel aggrieved by such regulation... however, it is not easy to please the whole spectrum, i am sure the mods here have seen your articulation/feedback of these restrictions and they will deliberate

from a personal standpoint, i can clock 50 posts in a week without spamming the threads.... cos i do know a fair number of people here in this forum through my active participation (be it on the internet or games played)

if one genuinely seeks for it, i think 50 posts in a month is achieveable...

again, through that 50 posts, one can benefit what this forum is about, ie encourage the interest of the game and build kinship among golfers
