I am thinking of changing my R9 max 460 to the 420. I have a lot more confidence when hitting smaller head clubs but then again i've never experienced driver with heads smaller than 460.

So has anyone tried the R9 420cc? What are your thoughts on it?

Firstly, I'm a newbie so the bigger the clubhead, the happier I am. I was playing with the Burner which, as you know, has a decently sized clubhead (ok, it's freakin' huge). Then I moved to the R9.

While I could pull off some decent shots with it, it wasn't confidence-inspiring and I ended up flubbing it most of the time.

It all boils down to comfort. Some people believe that with a smaller clubhead, accuracy is a must so they hit the ball well. On the other hand, with a bigger clubhead, they tend to be less careful so end up mishitting the shot.

Personally, I found the R9 (420) a good club when I could hit it well. Unfortunately, I didn't hit it well often. Heck, I hardly hit it well.

... the rest, as they say, is history.

Have you seen the r9 460 and 420 side by side? Does it look a lot smaller?

When I was buying the R9, I had it set side-by-side the R9 Max/460. The clubhead size isn't significantly bigger but there is a difference. It may be psychological, but it affects my play.

Because when i compare the titleist d2 (460) and d3 (440), i can already see the size difference. Just wondered how a 420cc (40cc difference) will look like. Id go check it out myself, but im currently in samarinda, borneo and they don't have a decent golf shop here.

Hope this helps:

Ok, i should be able to hit that still. When you said you hit it right, distance wise how does it fare with the 460cc driver? Im assuming it goes the same length?

Never tried playing with the R9 460. Moved from my R9 to the CL Launcher.

Just saw the ad. It's at GR8 Golf. Some pretty good offers, I think.

wah shag. haha i'll try Smile

R9 460 Tp was the model i got, and its significantly larger at address position compared to the R9. I think the most distinct is the deeper face compared with the R9, so u can tee it up and rip it a little better.

R9 and R9 tp - only difference is the shaft, head is the same
R9460 and R9460 max is identical - former is US spec and latter is Japan Spec ( I think! )
R9Max E - Not sure but when i looked at it, it really looked similar to the R9460 in terms of size.

that is because the design is different. One is shallower face and one is deep face. That will exaggerate the differences. If both are similar shape, the difference will be less visible

I am also looking at the R9 420CC as I prefer smaller driver heads. currently using the R7 limited and was thinking of changing.

Can the experts here comment on the difference?

thanks
