Same as pushslice. I converted from a 52,56,60 combi to 50,54,58 because of the gap betw my PW and GW.

To me, wedges are there to fill distance gaps from 10-100m. If you have control over your swing and able to execute different shots with dist variations by lofting or delofting, then you probably can play with 2 wedges. More often than not, it would be 52,58 instead of 54,58 cos there would be too big a gap from your PW unless your PW has old sch lofts like 48 deg.

If got limited talent like me where my feel-like-half-swing is actually a overswing to others, then probably 3 wedges is better to fill the gaps.

interesting topic.
Would wish to check with bros here.
Anyone have any experience bending a 52* 12 bounce to 50*.
Heard it will increase the bounce?
Anyone have any experience weakening the loft?
Appreciate any inputs.
reason to bend a 52* to 50* is to experiment, since i have callie 52* that i guess hard to sell.
So rather than buy want to bend it.
I was thinking if the bounce is too high, was looking if it can be grind.
Not sure how it works. appreciate any inputs.

Many thanks!

bending to deloft gives you less bounce and bending to increase loft gives you more bounce.

2012 cally forged?

Not sure whether u want to grind away the bounce, swing weight and overall weight might be altered... Might as well buy new one and sell old one...

The lack of repertoire of swings except half and 3/4 seem logical for a 3 wedge set up ...

It's interesting that you had stuck to R for your wedges when many would have gone for S. which is usually 10 g more.

I am hypotesizing that a lighter wedge shaft helps to generate more little more clubheight speed for partial shots which means the stiff staft would have taken a bit more effort to load. Ball spins more and flight is higher?

My irons are S flex (steelfibre i95) and my wedges in R flex (KBS Spinner)

I changed my irons shafts to S but stuck with R on my wedges cos I figured I actually play more partial shots with them as compared to full shots.

As as for the original question, it all depends on what is the loft of your PW and how good you are with hitting partial shots with your wedges. With any wedge, there are distances which are easier to hit compared to others. That is because in general most of us can't adjust our swing in 10% increments easily. It is probably closer to 33%, i.e. 1/3 or 2/3 or full swing, with more talented Golfers able to vary in 25% increments consistently.

What I suggest is that if you are considering the switch, borrow a 54 and a 58, then go to an exec course with the 5 wedges mentioned and your PW and play 2 balls. Split your wedge combination into 2 (PW can be used for both) and see which combination helps you score better and makes you feel more at ease.

If after one try you are not sure, repeat the process over several weeks until you are sure.

P.S. who knows, after a few months of practice with only wedges in an exec course, you might just discover the loft does not matter and you know what do with any kind of wedge in any situation.

sorry to go off topic, maybe a rare breed but I use 54, 58 and 62.

62 also acts as my SW and the club I used for flop shots.

Actually the decision process wasn't that complicated, I was having a slight hook issue with my irons on full swings but not with my wedges. So no reason to change something that works right and feels right.

In any case my swing speed is in between S and R for most shafts (more toward R) and I really can't feel the difference between a R and a S in a wedge shaft. They all feel stiff to me.

Wish I could comment on how the shaft affects the flight, but my short game ball striking is not consistent enough to gauge what the shaft does. Most of the time my ball will fly in at different heights and make it somewhere near the hole by sheer luck on a good day. On a bad day, sigh .... I don't even want to talk about it ....

I know I am repeating but I still think the best way to pick a wedge (or a shaft for a wedge) is to compare them head to head on the same shots and see which one gives the best overall performance (must include the bad shots also)

the set i have now has the reverse problem. Pitching wedge now feels too light and uncontrollable. Because it is a 5-p setup with same shafts throughout.

And perhaps this is just me, but i am considering doing a different shaft for pitching wedge. make it same as my 52* shaft. heavier s200.
