PostSubject: Handicap issued by Daiman 18   Tue Jun 04, 2013 11:11 am

Hello GRians,

I would like to check with you guys - Is the handicap issued and maintained by Daiman 18 recognized in S'pore and whether we can play on courses like NSRCC, MBGC etc.

Many thanks in advance!

I think is is recognized in the sense that the Sg clubs will let you play. But, if you need to take part in some competition, that is another matter...

No problem, try checking out the local clubs with no real estate. Think you can easily maintain a handicap at one of tjose

The appropriate party to ask is Catherine of daiman 18.
She is a qualified referee and handicap tester.

Ask her if the club issues a MGA hdcp card to you every month.

When in doubt, check at www.mgaonline.com.my Registered to check your handicap status and also your buddy update handicap.

A valid handicap as mention before must be issued monthly. Some club in Singapore and Malaysia are strict e.g. MBGC where they want to verify only your recent month handicap card. There was once my friends from KL was rejected as his handicap shown is 6 months old, and MBGC request his home club to fax over immediately for validation. It is a very reputable club in KL.

Yeah heard there are "sale" of handicap card for quickie, but heard it only issue once, that mean it is not recognize or valid after few months. So RM350 is expensive pcs of paper.

A while back I was thinking of getting a Malaysian H'cap since i'm based here and I thought it might be cheaper.

I approached a local teaching Pro to ask and he says it cost about RM 300 plus to do it the proper way, meaning taking the H'cap test and getting 10 completed score cards, registering etc.

If you check the Daiman 18 website, it also lists the cost of getting a H'cap totaling about RM 403.
http://www.daiman.com.my/daiman18_golf_club.html

I believe that a local Pro who have played with you or is certain you will meet the minimum requirements will /can offer the 'quickie' buy skipping the actual H'cap test and 10 score cards and just submit the required docs on your behalf thus saving everybody time and money. Thus the discounted price of RM 350. That said, there could be scammers out there.

Main thing is that you have to pay yearly to maintain it, same as everywhere else, else it wont stand up to scrutiny.

In the end, I decided that since I dun play in SG often and I dun play tourneys n medals.. I save 100 plus bucks a year by not having a handicap. I buy local insurance where needed.

Good that you have golf insurance. That is important.

My question... how would you know what is your actual handicap?

I feel its good to have our hcp maintained. That way we would know if we have improved or being stagnant.

my first target is to break 100 first Razz, else no point having a handicap right? i'll definitely get one once I consistently play in the 90s.

Wouldn't it be nice, if you start to drop your hcp??? anyway does not mean 72+24 = 96 and that's your target score. There's also slope rating and course rating to consider also. With a higher course and slope rating, you maybe playing higher than 96.
