Enjoy the game. Take things easy. Don't get too frustrated. Your game will come to you.

Since you are already 8 handicap. I don't doubt you have problems with your game.
Most likely in the head.

Your game sounds like mine where we can have some stretches of par golf but suddenly spoilt by one blown hole. Still trying to figure out how to recover from / reduce blown holes.

Short game really makes the difference.

I think that playing with better players allows you to see how they achieve their 70s score and their course management, ie. not always hitting driver, bunkers to avoid, etc. There is also the fear of losing too much money.

So what achievement now? Your brother Slinger advise U to try white tee? (bad boy andrew) How about changing pro? play from Black, which will make U work harder. Playing with super low handicapers would help. Stop betting, you go back to old swing or tactic to play once you bet. go to driving range that no one knows U or when your kakis are not there. U can focus better to practice your swing.
1. set target to 75. every stroke extra will be 5$ for the piggy bank.
2. look around for a pro that can alter, adjust oR see the fault of your swing.
we dont have big time to change swing. AND each n every body require
customised swing.
3. then check your weapon. even the same brand off the shelf not
necessary balanced. wat about wood, rescue and driver.
4. get the fitting pro to calibrate and set to linear frequency
(hey I am talking about frequency and not interested in Jap/US/global )
5. THE biggest question to U
HOW many hours/day U spend on the chipping n putting green????

the 5$ will accumulate to big ($$$$$$) then U can have a good celebration OK?

It's about short game. You need to spend time on it especially if you consistently play the same course. Those shots ard the greens are very important.

And also understanding the course, where to miss etc. you don't need birdies to break 80, you just need to minimize the bogeys and double bogeys.

I just don't seem to know what to do inside 100m,guess a lot of work is left to be done.
As for swing speed, I don't have a very fast and furious swing. I its all about generating lag and releasing through the ball to generate club head speed. If we swing from the top of out swings to get a mighty swing, most of the speed is lost by the time the club head reaches the ball, compared to generating lag and compressing the ball through impact

For those shots inside 100m, you could try not to lag your club so much. For me, with those 'feel' shots below 100m, I find it easier to judge distance using bigger muscle groups like my shoulders and arms, instead of using my wrists (lag). Besides, it helps me minimise the 'blading' or 'duffing' these shots. You might want to give it a try.

Thanks for the advice ppl, will try them out and see how the improvement is. I just spent an hour on the shipping and putting green, feeling a little more confident of my short game for the 18 holes later. I changed my putter from the Newport 2 back to my old Scotty that I was using previously, and I seem to be putting more solidly and making putts. Will post my score and game review tonight, it will be more detailed to get ready for a wall of text!

If u can drive well (not neccessary long) and good short game on the day, chances of breaking 80 is there.

Imagine if u did not drive into hazard or ob, no need to GIR every hole but must be able to recover at least 50% chance when you missed the green, u will likely score well on that day.
